Im going to the Champions league final which is Athens on May 23rd. Flying to Athens is very expensive so I want to book a package holiday to Corfu, Crete etc but Ill need to be able to get to Athens relatively cheap.

Does anyone know of a good island I can book a package holiday on and access Athens easily.

Ive found flights from Crete and Corfu to Athens but Im looking for something cheaper.

    tia,

Ah yes but flying to Athens is very expensive, flights alone are more expensive than a holiday in Corfu/Crete.

Yeah, unfortunately there aren't good direct flights to Athens from Dublin anymore.

Crete to Athens is quite a ferry trip - about 10 hours probably. Make sure you find out the exact ferry times as they may only leave Crete in the morning. You are better off going to Corfu which is nearer and then get a bus on the mainland. Or check out closer islands that have airports such as Paros and Skiathos iirc.

Sailings take about 9 hours on standard ferries (ANEK Lines), but choose Minoan Lines, it only takes 6 hours on their boats.

    You can book here:

Skiathos(mentioned earlier) is available as a package holiday destination, out of Ireland, this year. XL Holidays are the people(xl.com). skiathosinfo.com tells me that a combined hydrofoil/bus is a four hour journey, Skiathos>Athens:)

Try going to Athens via Warsaw, Poland. We are going to the match also and that route isnt too bad.
