    Hi,

Has anyone any experience with going to hypnotherapists in Dublin?

Specifically for treatment of anxiety, insecurity, low self-esteem / confidence issues etc. I'm interested in hearing about the effectiveness of hypnotherapy, costs and any recommended doctors for this.

I'm busy actively trying to sort out these issues myself, but while my conscious mind thinks I'm good looking, intelligent, funny and generally spiffing, my unconscious mind doesn't agree and changing that is proving very difficult.

Have you spoken to your GP or a life coach or some such?

A lot of the confidence related to hypnotherapy is associated with confidence trick.

My old housemate got hypnotherapy to give up smoking after years of trying and failing. Worked a charm for her.

I used it as a non chemical based way to deal with stress and some health issues and it worked to a degree for both. My sessions taught me how to hypnotise/meditate myself which I can still do when needed. Its also a great way of having incredible sleeps.
The thing about the version I have done is you do remain conscious the whole time and you can come out of it anytime you want. Not that you will want to. It was through the Tony Quinn health shops, specifically the one in Dunlaoghaire.
I hope this helps a little.

I'm booked in for a session for the first time next Tuesday. I'll let you know how I get on. My sister had it done previously & found it great.

I've been to 3 different hypnotherapists for the same type of problems that you describe, and came out of all 3 feeling as if I'd been robbed. I spent a substantial amount of money on them, and they didn't help whatsoever.
In saying that, it could just be me, they say that not everybody can be hypnotised, and I may fall into that category.
Give it a try anyway, sometimes they will just give you 1 session to assess you and then you can see how you feel after that, to see if you want to go on to do more.
I think everybody is different, and you may have a very different experience to me, but I know that this is something I'll never waste my time & money on again.

'I am also thinking of doing this - can anyone tell me roughly how much to expect to pay for a session - is it around €100 an hour?'

Personally I would suggest that that you seek out a good psychotherapist or psychologist, then you can look at the underlying issues that are causing your current difficulties, especially if the anxiety you are describing is severe. I am not having a go at all hypnotherapists however, afaik most of the teaching in Ireland is at diploma level. Personally my mental health is important to me, so whatever type of therapy I might seek out, I would expect the person to be at least at Maters level in that particular discipline. Best of luck with it whatever you decide.

It's not just you. This happened to me too, though I gave up after the first hypnotherapist, but I did have six or seven sessions with him, and in the end he admitted that he couldn't help me. I felt a lot worse after those sessions than I ever did before I went to him. Felt totally angry at the waste of time and money and effort I'd put in to it.

Oh, and he wasn't just somebody I found in a phone book, he was recommended to me, so maybe it just wasn't the type of therapy that suited me ... though I wish he'd told me that after my first session :(

i am one of the most generally skeptical people you will ever meet and i have never been hypnotised but it is something i BELIEVE to be possible and if i had a problem like yours i probably would try out hypnotherapy....

the reason i am replying to the thread is that someone mentioned tony quinn healthstores and while im sure the stores in general and the people who work there are perfectly normal i would not give tony quinn a cent

Agreed, the man is a good marketer, but he is without a clue.
