Sky on non-sky dish.

I have an old dish I used briefly for Satellite Broadband which I no longer need. I already have sky but my brother doesn't and would like to use my dish, plus my old sky box, to get the BBC and ITV channels, plus any other FTA channels available. We have mounted the dish but cannot get any signal either using a sky lnb or other lnb. On a few occasions when moving the dish we have got a stong signal on a sat meter, but when we connect the box we get "no satellite signal". Could the dish be unsuitable? It's a 1m solid dish, not perforated like the sky minidish.

    Mossie

The dish would be fine. I understand you moved the dish, but if you took it down without disturbing the brackets, the dish might still be pointed to Astra 1 (19°E), where a lot of satellite broadband services come from. BBC and ITV are only available on Astra 2 at 28°E. If you plugged a Sky box into a dish point at 19°E, no satellite being recieved would be very common.

There are about 10 satellite positions that give really strong signals. :)
Only one will automatically work a Sky box, also it tends to need to be unpluged and reconnected to mains if it was on a non-28.2 satellite, it can say there is no signal when it is perfect :)
