I got Sky+ for my husband for his birthday. He is not impressed!

We had Sky, it was tuned in on Channel 1. My husband was happy.

We now have Sky+ and it appears to be tuned in on EXT1. My husband swears the sound and picture quality are worse and wants the SKY button to stop jumping back to EXT1. How do I fix this?

Check scart lead is tightly in place to stop ext coming up automaticially press services on remote 4 system setup then 1 picture settings go to scart control and select off then go down to save.you will to manually select the scart button on ur tv.it is likely ur old sky box was connected using the rf modulator hence saved on channel 1

Excellent... now for my next question...

He can no longer get text (by pressing the text button obviously)... how do I resore it?

Personally, I'd have been well impressed if I had been bought Sky+, though I had to buy it myself in the end! :)

Also, there is something seriously wrong, if the picture and sound are worse using Scart (EXT1) than with RF (Channel 1).

As for the text button not working, on which channels? Like, is it standard teletext that no longer works (eg RTE1 etc) or the digital text available on BBC and Sky channels etc?

I think the main problem with the EXT thing was that the volume was lower. The button is fixed now and he is mostly happy. Personally I don't watch TV so it makes no difference to me.

He can't get the RTE1/2 etc text... aertel, BBC text etc. Not sure what he reads on there but he wants it back (and I need it back to restore harmony in the Twan Universe)

Hmm, well if it's Aertel via Sky that he's missing out on, then unplugging the sky+ box for a minute or two, and plugging it back in should fix. It's a common enough problem for any skybox to lose the ability to show teletext.

BBC no longer have teletext on Sky, solely relying on their BBCi digitaltext service (which is much inferior IMO to Ceefax)

Of course, if he uses text via the terrestrial channels (from rooftop aerial) for text, then the problem would be different...

I will do the box off/box on thing when he goes to make tea later. We have no aerial so it is only text through Sky that is an issue. I didn't know about the BBC switching only to digital. I have no idea what he needs text for.

Well if he only lost Aertel through hte sky box, then the reboot should fix it. THe issue is common on all Sky boxes, not just Sky+

Sorry Byte but AFAIK RTÉ don't transmit teletext (Aertel) on the Sky platform.
I've never been able to get non MHEG text on my standard Sky Digibox, when you press the text button on the RTÉ channels, an on screen message asks you to press the TV button on you RC and return to the the terrestrial tuner.
Perhaps in the future they may provide a service like this. I believe that they intend to trial an MHEG text service during the second phase of the irish DTT tests.

They do provide Teletext (Aertel), but not Digital Text, like on the BBC channels.

If you press TV and then TEXT on the remote when tuned to RTÉ 1, you get Aertel teletext. If not, unplug the box from the mains for a minute.

Thanks DMC, tried this just now ! You're right, the text is carried on the Astra transponder, works on TG4 & TV3 as well + Ch 6 !!

    ps

I wish someone would buy me Sky+ I'd be bloody delighted.

    Text is still not working.

He is now moaning about the noise of the spinning of the hard drive in the Sky+ box.

You do have the television tuned into the Sky remote, don't you? E.g. volume control and all that works from the Sky remote?

No offense but he sounds like an ungrateful tool... Maybe you should threaten to bring it back to the shop unless he shows a bit of gratitude...:D

All the other buttons work fine. Volume, channel, mute etc.

The guy just doesn't like change all that much. He is just now getting used to having our son around... he turned 2 last week!
