    hi folks,

had a network setup at home but had to rebuild (reload xp/mce) the media pc downstairs and now cannot connect to it.

    what I have done.
all media pc's hd's have the security set to sharing.
both pc's are on the same "workgroup" -named the same.
I can ping the media pc from upstairs -success.

but cannot map a drive from the upstiars pc to the media pc.

It's a wired network and the router hasn't been touched since the rebuild.
the netgear router has both ip address in its range.

edit - in "my network places" the upstairs pc is visible (on that pc)
but on the mediapc - the mediapc itself is not visible within "my nw places"

anything else to check out ??

    thx

Your edit made me look silly, :D
On the PC Upstairs try the following and see if you get anything:
Click on Start and then on Run.
Type the following \\192.168.0.X (The 192.168.0.X being the IP address of the Media PC)

See if you can now see the shares?

Have you a software firewall installed? It may be blocking access so you'd need to setup the IP Range that's allowed to connect to your PC.

more of an observation than anything else.

when the media pc is in S3 standby - I can still ping it !!!

    why is that ??
