    I've been accepted to take part in a preliminary interview for cadetship in Galway and was just wondering if theres any advice anyone has to offer, or anything I should know before going there?
    Do I dress formally?
    And is ther anything I need to bring or should bring besides the passport photos, birth cert, certificates of qualifacations and the AF 340?
    Thank you all..

    its a formal interview so dress appropriately, sit at position of attention with hands on knees dont talk with hands and look people in the eye when answering a question. its a competency based interview and they will ask you about 4 of the ones from form you filled in on applying in detail. dont be afraid to take some of the water they leave out either.good luck

    Go to www.military.ie and read absoloutly everything!

    I mean swallow it all. Its all Army Propoganda but its exactly what they want to hear from potential cadets.

    They will want to know;

    1) Your knowledge of the military (what the Army does Day to Day, cash escorts, Overseas missions, Aid to the Civil Power)

    2) Previous experiences (were you/are you in the RDF, Scouts etc)

    3) Hobbies and Interests (the Army are big on sports especially team sports and especially GAA team sports)

    4) Build up a CV booklet don't just turn up with bits of paper and some certs...put it all in a plastic booklet (they cost very little in stationary shops)

    5) Looking the part is half the battle turn up in a suit with a neat hair cut and clean shaved. (if you're a bloke that is...but if you're a girl might just check the aul tache anyway :D )

    6) They are looking for Cadets with 3rd Level Qualifications so if you have one harp on it to the Interview Board and be able to interpret to the Board how your Degree will help further the Defence Forces.

    7) If you don't have a degree and are joining up to get a free ride ( ;D) be sure to let the Board know what you intend to study etc. and that you'd be willing to change subject to further the DF etc. etc.

    hope this helps ya

    best of luck.
