National Submission Championships 2007

    Hey all,

    We've set the date for the NSC2007 as June 9th for Seniors and June 10th for Juniors.

    The event will take place in UCD's Sport Centre and we'll find some way of getting three matted arenas so the action will run a little quicker. (Of course, you could just win quickly instead of having drawatons like the All Valley :) )

    Weight Categories are:
    62Kg, 68Kg, 75Kg, 83Kg, 92Kg, +92Kg

    Skill Divisions: Novice, Inter, Advanced

    An "Elite" may apply in the 83/92 categories if there's enough numbers. This would be for those who've won/medaled at Advanced in previous Sub Championship Ireland events.

    It will be a round robin competition with 3 points for a win (submission), 0 for a draw. Standard Sub Championship Ireland rules apply.

    We'll have prizes for Best Sub and Best Slam as well. Oh Yeah! :cool:

    Pre-entry is €20, and entry on the day is €25.

    I'll upload entry forms soon.

    In the meantime, this strategy should help you.

    Best of luck,
    Colm

    Sounds brilliant.I cant wait to compete and hopefully I'll do better this time.Better start preparing

    I don't agree with the idea of an elite division.
    Is the scene big enough for 4 divisions?
    Also prevents a newcomer (to the regular competitors here) entering and taking the big prize.
    Opinions?

    Also Colm, what do you think of running a future event under the adcc weight classes, for advanced anyway. It would allow our (irish) guys to get used to competing at that weight if they decide to go for the bigger international tournaments.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭Nothingcompares

    adcc weight classes are

    * 65 Kg and Under (Lightweight)
    * 66Kg to 76 Kg (Welterweight)
    * 77 Kg to 87 Kg (Cruiserweight)
    * 88 Kg to 98 Kg (Light-Heavyweight)
    * 99 Kg and over (Heavyweight)
    * Absolute Class

    NSC are:

    62Kg, 68Kg, 75Kg, 83Kg, 92Kg, +92Kg

    I think the 66 - 76 is way too big for the NSC.

    Noooo, the prospect of cutting to 68 is bad enough, heaven forbid 65!:eek:

    Scrap that, just bring in a rule that the defending champion only needs to do the final match, a la Karate Kid 3.

    I wholeheartedly agree with Clive! :D

    Okeydoke, it was only if there was a rake of people in the advanced division, I thought it would be a nice way to split them.

    I'll leave the weight classes as they are for this one, next season we'll see about changing them.

    Heh. I wouldn't mind splitting the divisions. -83 advanced seemed kinda scary :D
    Oh well good experience :p

    Pretty much yes, but its a big difference.
    Also, BJJ competitions (where you have to wear the gi) usually are points competions, while submission comps usually are just win,lose or draw by submission only, no points.

    I will be a) 83kgs and tubby, but happy due to spending ore time with my friend Mr. Carb during my exam period.
    b) 75kgs and wipped, and depressed having neglected studies and Mr. Carb in favour of cutting.

    Who knows how this will turn out?

    Edit? Edit? Now I'm curious Tim, what did you say?:D You insulted my parentage didn't you? Thats it! I'm coming to 68kgs Murphy! That Swedish dude can stay at home :D

    Seriously, 75 is a long way away today, but we shall see...

    Ger, if I make it you have to promise to wear your old AIMAA dobuk and I'll wear mine.:D

    Everyday I get a little lighter, but not too much!

    Had a heavy sweaty session in SBGN last night. Weighed before and was 80.3, weighed again after 1.5hrs of BJJ and 1hr of no gi- 80.2kgs:D

    But we shall see, my ability to drop weight at an alarming rate doesn't quite match Clive's, but its not far off. -75kgs, I'm a coming!

    Nice to see the competitive rivalry heating up

    Keep up sending in the entries. If you're training with anyone who's sitting on the fence enter them anyway! We'd a rake of beginners at the All Valley and it's important to encourage them.

    And remember, the junior division is on the Sunday, see Roper angry with a hangover!

    As for weights, I'm 71.5Kg, can I make 68Kg and steal the title from Roddy?

    That's asking two questions - in no particular order I will answer them thusly - maybe, and seems unlikely.

    But as Joe Rogan has pointed out - this is the year of the underdog and Vegas Odds have Riley as underdog - by that rationale I believe it is now impossible for Roddy to win.

    Last week of training and the ugliness of cutting weight or the self acceptance that you'll fight at a weight heavier than last time.

    If you've no where to train this bank holiday, Spartan MMA under the tutelage of The Shane will be on tonight at 7.30

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 111 ✭✭StrateBlastJim

    No not this weekend, i shall be competing in the next event, but my plan for this weekend is to train someone else to do the job for reilly. I had another 2.5 month spell out with injury/family/ and learning to drive issues, but im re-making a comeback this week to training.

    You better start running murphy as reilly is going to make under 70 if i have to chase him round the sports hall for 3 hours. Hes to fat these days, come to think of it we all are.

    Fattys list so far;
    Me
    Reilly
    The Shane
    tim
    roper
    barry commins
    vinny
    clive

    feel free to add who you think with the goal being to shame them into doing more cardio, and not just lifting heavier things like shane
