I am trying to get my hands on as many Mega Drive games as I can, I want a collection.

Is there anywhere (apart from ebay) where I could source them? I also want a SNES and SNES games.

Thanks a lot, I would especially love to hear about non-online shops.

You could try the book exchange place on Talbot street but it has long since been cleared out of decent stuff by retro fans like myself. There really isn't anywhere else better to find retro games than on e-bay. You could try hunting bargains in car boot sales but it's rare you will find any real bargains, don't expect a pristine copy of Eliminate Down for a fiver.

Start using 3V set up a paypal account and get on to ebay or the other auction sites.

    Ha!
No! ..sell ME! your 16bit games - I'll pay a euro more than he does!
    Ok Ok maybe not :)
Its a bit harder over here to get a collection going than it seems to be in the UK .Most Carboot sales here just dont seem to get anything more retro than the odd PS1 now (I have something like 4 at the moment) and copies of Fifa 05 etc.
We don't have the gamestation shops like they do in the UK either.
So you rely on Ebay sales (and dont you hate when you find a nice cheap game/system with a few minutes left on the clock , but just UK shipping prices and a <In'tl bidders contact me for postage prices> message...sigh).

The book exchange in talbot st do get "new" ..er old games in every so often , but the guy running is actually pricing himself out of the equation :i.e 20 quid for a boxed meg game , when you can pick up the same one on ebay for an average of maybe €6-8 including postage. Its a pity as he seems decent enough , and I'd love to support the shop.

Anyway , by the same logic as Timans original post ..if you have any Sega Mastersystem games knocking about and feel like selling them , give me a shout :)

Try the market at Fairyhouse racecourse on Sundays. There's a guy out there who had a great collection of retro video game stuff and some new stuff too. He's got a stall indoors, to the right when you walk into the market if I remember correctly.

Some times you can hit gold in second hand shops. Ive done this quite a few time. Many of them can't sell electrical goods so any old consoles/games that are donated are upstairs gathering dust.

Found a major stash last year in a second hand shop on Capel street. There was a three foot pile of consoles, all the wiring and games. Spent hours going through it all. Managed to get quite a few things.

Saying that, you'll mostly get Nintendo consoles and games from such places. I'ev only picked up the odd Sega piece now and again. All my Megadrive stuff is either from my childhood collection or ebay. A few friends have donated some games too.

My original intention was to aim for a complete Megadrive collection. Got somewhat sidetracked a while ago. Have to get back on top of it!...Already over 1/7th of the way there! :D

ahh thats actually not that far from where I live - might head up there on sunday

__edit_ oh the talbot st shops gone down a bit in my estimation , saw a large sign in the window yesterday - Xbox+ game of your choice:60 quid. Went in there today (payday!) to buy one .
    "err.. we've none "
(not even oooh we sold out yesterday etc , just "oh we've none")
Except of course , the signs still in the window, gah! I dont mind the selling out , but how hard is it to take the sign down...meh ..
laziness!!Anyway ended up nipping in to game in dawson st , and getting one with 3 games for 65 ( 60 quid for the console , 5 quid a game - buy 2 get one free +5 quid credit on a loyalty card, happy days ).

I got a SNES with 2 controllers and Yoshis Island (and some other games I can't remember) for about $50 a few months ago on eBay.
Thinking of getting a Megadrive meself. I want sore thumbs again. :)

cheers for the tip , picked up a sega saturn , 1 game (NBA live98), a copy of quartet on the sms , space harrier 2 on the meg , a jap meg converter and an odd NES game and a c64 joystick for 40 odd quid :).
(of course i didnt check the damn av cable was with the saturn when I bought it , so add a few quid off ebay to pick up a new one of those :) )

yeah , although bear in mind there was no controllers (I've a spare saturn controller at home [as you do like!]so its not too bad), or as it turns out proprietary AV cable plus its possible it mightn't be working.(It seems to be fine , but I wont know until I get the cable delivered from ebay)
The guy running the stall seemed OK (although he'd just had a crazy guy haggling with him , trying to buy ALL his karaoke disks for two hundred quid , so I think he was relieved I wasn't just going to offer him a fiver and keep saying "go on , go on, go on ).
