Anyone played Killerig lately?

I played it once about four years ago and the club house was a little log cabin. I was impressed with the course and thought it would be great once it matured a bit. Fairways and greens were great but most of the trees were very young, a lot like Millicent although I don't remember it being as long.

So what's it like now there's a hotel and spa and lodges built around it. From a golfer's perspective, once you find the website there's little or nothing in the way of details about the course. Most clubs, at the very least will put up a scorecard.

    Opinions?

    I stand corrected.

Hard to recommend it at the moment though, although with Open Fairways it was only €15 each today.
They are doing a lot of work on the course at the moment. The 2nd is closed, diggers have the fairway dug up halfway along, and the 11th is off temporary tees. A lot of track marks around the place from machinery moving about. I've no doubt the course will be better for it in the long run but we were a bit miffed that they failed to mention any of this on the phone when we booked. We would have gladly spent more for a better round. Golf days are more scarce than golf courses.

If your looking for good golf in the area, there are lots of courses within 20-25 miles. Carlow,Coolattin, Mount Wolselsy,Kilkea Castle,Rathsallagh, Gowarn Park,Castlecomer,Kilkenny and the list goes on.....

Just back from our traditional weekend away which incorporates our Presidents Prize. We stayed in the Seven Oaks in Carlow town and played Killerig on the Saturday and Gowran on the Sunday.
The Killerig course has come on a lot from the time that I had played it 4 years ago. The trees are a good bit more developed and there now seems to be a real golf course in there! Unfortunately, the greens are still horrendous bad!! It is a lottery trying to putt on them. The course is relatively short with one of the Par 5's reachable with a drive and a good 7 iron!!
The drainage work is still mending but it seemed to need it urgently. Some of the holes were a good test ie. The par 4 sixth and the par 3 seventh are excellent holes. But the two par 4's ninth and tenth are a joke!!
In comparison to Gowran............ well......... There is no comparison!!

Well what is the course like in 2009?
Planning to play the Open day on July 4th but not sure if it's worth playing reading some of the reviews around.

    Cheers
