all my life its been like this.

Id be in the shower/in the car/ cleaning etc and an episode of a show(normally friends or the simpsons) would suddenly pop into my head- and the next day(Sometimes even the same day) that EXACT episode would be on tv. I wouldnt have been looking at tv guides or anything so id have no idea what episodes would be on.

It happends every few days- i dont know if it means anything but it really freaked me out yesterday when a song from the simpsons popped into my head while i was washing the dishes- so i hummed it away while i was doing it. Then about a half an hour later i sat down to watch telly and the episode with the song was in it

I dont know weather to be freaked out about this!!

i dont think it tv you can predict, more likely being given incidents that prove themselves to y ou pretty fast, so you NOTICE they have occured.

Yeah I think that type of experience is a hint or a clue from your subconscious to let you know you've a psychic talent for precognition or premonition.

I agree with imprezza. Precognition is a funny thing though at times... thing about it is it's something that might happen if you continue down that road, or it may happen because you made a decision based on what you saw, if you subscribe to the belief that each choice is played out, ala alternate/parallel universes and all that jazz.

It can also be useful for determining if there'll be anything good on TV later ;)

Nice one stormkeeper...now theres a thought I could save a fortune on my Sky bills :D

Well, why not try broadening it a bit. Experiment, play little games with it, like, who is the next person who will knock at the door? Going to a place youve never been, imagine it and see how close your mental image is to reality. Have fun with it, dont push yourself too hard, or youll find it slips away. See how it develops for you.

Shows like that are normall on a few times on the week they are repeated... perhaps you overheard that episode in the few days before putting it in your head...

Shows like Friends or The simpsons are on heavy rotation on nearly every TV station out there. It would be pretty common to think of an episode from any season and find it somewhere on a station during 24 hour period. in particular the episodes which would be deemed popular. I'd be inclined to go with a "not psychic" vote personally for something so trivial.

IMO this is the sort of thing that happens to everyone, so I guess you'd have to determine how much it happens to you compared to an average person.

for example do you just think about a TV show and that's it, or do you think about it say to yourself, I bet that will be on when i turn on the TV.

We all have a fair idea about how much info our brains stores/notices subconsciously not much point in me bringing this info up here.
If someone is watching something on TV and remembers "I was just thinking about that yesterday" what weight do you give this thought? how many other things whipped through that persons mind that they will not recall later on?
Since some people can claim that their whole life can "flash before their eyes" just how much content we are we capable of thinking about as we go about our normal day.
It may be possible that an above average active part of the brain could increase the frequency of such thoughts and lead someone to think it was precognition or premonition.
Obviously it could be precognition or premonition.
I thought KatieK suggestion was very good, try it out/test it carry a note book write it down etc.

I have this exact thing or at least i did when i had a tv,
my mates used to ask me in college what simpsons episode would be on that night and even if i was wrong itd be on within a few days
came to the conclusion that because we watch so much tv we instinctivly remember the schedual of a tv series and our brain is expecting it just like knowing a song off by heart.
also not to hyjack your tread but i have another type of psycic tv phenomonen
ill see an episode of a show, one i rarely watch , maybe something old and then years later ill see the show again, having not seen it in between and the same episode will be on.

In fairness I would doubt that this is that much of a phenomenon more like TV scheduling showing the good episodes of something as they are the ones people are more likely to watch.

    Exactly! :D

And not necessarily Sky either... it could also work on NTL or Chorus, or in the case of the UK, Virgin Media which is NTL and Telewest being taken over by Virgin... of course, if you want to see Lost, it'll have to be with Sky. Either way, I don't have a prediction for Virgin's TV service improving, although it's been a year and a half since we went with NTL as they were back then, so perhaps new name = better service, although I'll never know.

But I digress... there is more than likely an element of coincidence here, especially when you put forward the argument (which someone has done already) that there's so many re-runs on TV these days, which is good in some ways, although bad in others... given you're paying 30 quid a month for the same crap.

Back on topic again however, not to demean you, or suggest that you're not psychic, but predicting TV isn't one of the best forms of telling if you're gifted or not, although that said, the only notable exception could be the news, as in you recieve a sense that something is happening in the news, and when you turn it on, it's right there... although the only time I've seen the news story be on at the exact moment someone is thinking about it, or such is in Hollywood. That isn't to say it doesn't happen, but in all likelyhood, it doesn't happen all that often.

A good practice for yourself is this:
When you wake up in the morning, ask yourself for info on what your day will entail, take a notepad and write at least 5 things that may happen, ok, you already know most of your routine,SO, you ask what colour top your co worker will wear today ect, things you DONT know, then, when you go home that night, have a look at what you predicated, try it for a few weeks, let us all know the result.

Predicting the likes of TV may or may not be a paranormal phenomenon but alot of people dismiss it purely because it seems mundane. Unless its fantastical or benificial most cynics wont give it a secod thought.

However other ordinary everyday occurances are being looked at that could be seen as just as unexciting:
Telephone telepathy? Researcher says it rings true

Many people have experienced the phenomenon of receiving a telephone call from someone shortly after thinking about them. Now a scientist says he has proof of what he calls telephone telepathy.

Rupert Sheldrake, whose research is funded by the respected Trinity College in Cambridge, England, said on Tuesday he has conducted experiments that proved such precognition exists for telephone calls and even e-mails.

Each person in the trials was asked to give researchers names and phone numbers of four relatives or friends. These were then called at random and told to ring the subject who had to identify the caller before answering the phone.

"The hit rate was 45 percent, well above the 25 percent you would have expected," he told the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. "The odds against this being a chance effect are 1,000 billion to one."

He said he found the same result with people being asked to name one of four people sending them an e-mail before it had landed.

However, his sample was small on both trials--just 63 people for the controlled telephone experiment and 50 for the e-mail--and only four subjects were actually filmed in the phone study and five in the e-mail, prompting some skepticism.

Undeterred, Sheldrake--who believes in the interconnectedness of all minds within a social grouping--said that he is extending his experiments to see if the phenomenon also worked for cell phone text messages.

Also I believe the Koestler Parapsychology Unit in Edinburgh University are looking at a study regading when people experience the feeling of someone staring at them on the bus etc.

When people stare at you on a bus? what is that to do with parapsychology? I thought they were just weirdos.

No, I mean when you can "feel" someone is staring at youand if yu turn around you catch them at it.

Know that feeling, Have also had people react to my looks...

But also, Myself and the bro have experienced the TV thing alot. We'd be speaking about a film we'd want to see or hadn't seen in ages and within a week or two it'd usually be on... totally random.

It's weird alright, its like you control the tv schedule :P

But I hardly watch TV now.

One thing that does kinda freak me out, I usually know if a phonecall (House phone without caller ID - smartasses :P ) is for me, an who it is, not by the time theyre calling at, it just pops into my head every now an then and I know exactly who it is... scary thing about it is i'm never wrong when it just pops in.

edit:- So if I dont answer your calls.. you know why :P

I'd like to think that phone calls are a better indicator of psychic ability as many of them are random occurances.

Does anyone pick up their phone a split second just before they get a text just because they "knew" it was guna go off??

It happens to me a lot. Also if I've been spending a lot of time with someone I start saying the exact same thing at the same time and stuff

Heh, I often do the same thing, think of a TV show then see it within a day or two...doesn't happen that much any more though :(

Another weird thing is me and my girlfriend text eachother at EXACTLY the same time in average about once a week...like we wouldn't hear from eachother all day then as soon as i press send my phone beeps and i have a message from her...kinda gets confusing though when you write back both at the same time after...:)

Is that because you don't watch as much TV now? or because you don't read up on the TV pages etc?. I think this is all about what people pick up on, information that they half hear, scanning through the tellytext or the TV page. So many people experience these TV show, or Song on the Radio events that it is by far the most likely conclusion IMO that we have put this information into our brain in the first place.

With regards to the tv and stuff I'd say you're right for most of the incidents Stoner.

On the text and phone call incidents I'd say check out the thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055083227

Rupert Sheldrake's research on the matter is very interesting.

The name Rupert does not agree with me, on that note I won't be reading about his work.

Rupert is a bear, and much like yourself, everyone knows his name.

Wasn't Giles first name in Buffy The Vampire Slayer Rupert as well?

I do know that Rupert is a bear, but then again so is Paddington, who coincidentally is another well-known character.

This is a pretty common phenomenon, i get it too but generally while listening to music.

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,421 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

The Rupert thing is a very odd swerve on this thread.:) *dem drugs will kill yis, lads.;)

Doesnt everyone get the music thing from time to time? Your singing a song in your head and all of a sudden it comes on the radio?
