Am looking for a very long walk and was wondering has anyone managed to get to the top of Djouce and on to Lough Tay having started in Marlay Park?

Haven't done it myself, but it's effectively the first 1 and a half stages of the Wicklow Way. Marlay Park to Knockree is 21km, and Knockree to Roundwood is 18km so you'd be looking at the best part of 30km, I'd say.

Never tried it - because how would you get back home in a single day? I have done the first stage many a time (marley to knockree) and takes about 3.5 to 4 hours. I then head down into enniskerry for the 44 back to dundrum - thats another bit of time. So it should be feasible in 8 hours? But the stretch from crone woods to djouce looks like it is a lot more difficult and tough, espcially in bad weather. And you'd want a lift or accomodation at the end. If you have that then it should be possible - I suppose.

I've done it before. It's easily doable in a day, but again you want to think about accomodation. When I did it we camped in the woods around Djouce but I'm pretty sure that's not approved of. We didn't light a fire or anything and we were pretty careful to be off the common route ways but um, yeah, don't say I told ya to do it :p

But yes, tis a lovely decent walk.

Is there a bus service from Roundwood? Pretty sure if you left early enough you could push on along the Wicklow way and then get to Roundwood.

St Kevin's Bus stops in Roundwood

My times are off - the stretch from marley to knockree should actually read as 4 to 5 hours. Apologies.

Cheers for the replies guys. I think it'd be a bit too hardcore to try to reach Roundwood so I'm planning to get a lift organised to pick me up at Lough Tay, seems like the sensible plan.

    Hey Lukem,

I've did Marley Park to Roundwood last September, leaving Marley Park at 10:00 it was a bit of a rush to catch the Kevin's bus in Glendalough at 18:00. It is definitely a great walk, going from suburbs to mountainous countryside- not something you can do in many cities.

It really depends on your fitness level as to how far you go. My advise is to see what time it is when you get to Powerscourt/Crone Woods and then, if necessary you could cut it short and get a bus in Enniskerry or contact your driver.

Bring a map with you. While the Wicklow Way is perfectly signposted, the map comes in handy to follow where you are and in case you miss a turn or that.

Let us know how you get on
