Any idea how much this costs out of warranty? And how long it takes?

if I remember correctly from a quote I got from them, it's about €50 and will take 3/4 days. Buy a copper hill kit.

The quote I was given on Thursday was €95 + VAT

I got mine some time ago from http://www.chili-pix.ch/shop/. Do some research first though. I know the crowd that make the eclipse fluid have brought out a new liquid that is apparently better for sensors in some cameras and as such they dont recommend use of 'standard' eclipse fluid in these cameras. I think all the info is on the copper hill site (Google for it)

I have a 30D, which Is ok for the standard Eclipse fluid.

Has anyone tried purchasing from Copperhill themselves? Their prices seem very reasonable.

they wont sell eclipse fluid to customers outside the US (cant put it on a plane), so thats why I bought from the link above. Otherwise yes, the copper hill website does seem more reasonable.

Well the problem is that my housing leaked and the camera got salt water on it so I need the whole inside of the camera cleaned with alcohol I reckon. I rang them today said it'd be 2 weeks minimum and they won't gaurantee that it'll work afterwards.
They won't know until they open it how much it'll cost and it'll cost €50 to open it.

What do you reckon I should do, I'm half thinking of opening it up myself and giving it a rub with cleaning alcohol?

if they wont guarantee it'll work, I wouldnt entertain them any further. Ring Canon UK maybe? They may get a bit trigger happy replacing parts if they hear salt water got onto/into the camera.

If you don't know what you're at, dont try anything yourself. You'll only make it worse. Apart from a filthy sensor, is the camera doing anything else funny? If salt water got onto the electrics, I'd be worried that odd things are about to start happening.

there is not a hope in hell you would get *anyone* to guarantee it'd work after a clean.

From my dealings with ISS Paudie, I found them to be useless! Sure you know yourself they took nearly 3 weeks with mine. Canon covered the cost of the cleaning as the camera was only a few days old and arrived in that state but I had to cover the cost of getting to body to and from Dublin. ISS kept it for about 3 weeks, having initially estimate 3-4 working days. In the end it turned out that it wasnt dealt with cos the guy went on holidays (he never bothered to tell me he was doing that when I spoke to him prior to sending the body up). Anyway, the did a basic clean, nothing exciting and said that was the best they were capable of given their setup. The camera was sent back still filthy. ISS told me to send it to the UK, which was going to mean another 2-3 weeks. In short, I wouldnt deal with ISS at all. Id send it to Canon UK. At the end of the day you will be waiting almost as long for ISS to get your camera back to you in Limerick as you would for professionals in the UK to deal with your problem properly.

I'd recommend the CopperHill kit any day. Used it a few times and its worked 100%. A little bit daunting at first but once you get used to it its fine. Sometimes stubborn dust might need a second sweep but thats tobe expected...no fluids or chemicals with this set. Its realtively cheap too and mine arrived in the post in a little over a week if I remember correctly.
    Heres the link.

I use Copperhill too, but to be honest it sounds like Paudie needs more than a good sensor clean! Best of luck with it Paudie.

The guys in ISS just said they'd send it straight to the UK for them to clean it. I reckon I'll just keep using it and hope for the best.
I've got two Aussie surfers staying with me for a week and I can't afford not to have a camera so I'll let you know how it goes.
