Heard this the other day just wondering what people would think of this, and would they join it. I personal think its a good idea but probally wont join, seeing as how my club is very good at handling any type of claim and they take player welfare very seriously.

its hard to know how worthwhile joining the GPA would be for the average club player/no hoper for ever playing county football. when the GPA started there was conterversy over "elitiesm" (sorry about the spelling!) in that they were ignoring the club players, now joining them would massively increase theyre numbers , therefore power and revenue.

Hopefully this will pave the way for issues such as equal treatment when it comes to club football and the amount of playing time a player gets.I'd be hopeful that the GPA could address this as many players spend most matches standing at the sideline while coaches favorites/pets get their game.

Clubs don't give every player a chance, the clique mentality is too strong and it makes me sick.I think it should apply from underage to senior. Then instead of the usual players being played, the game can be promoted better

what are you suggesting blackbelt? that every player should get the exact amount of playing time regardless of abilitly. I think that is a very nieve and idealistic viewpoint. The talented players will always get the most playing time and unfortunately i doubt the GPA can have any impact on club politics - which in my opinion destroy the GAA. My club have treated me so badly over the years, and i now refuse to go near the club. I doubt the GPA or anyone else for that matter could rectify my situation......

Meathman,I'm not saying that every player should get exact equal treatment.Maybe I was wrong in the words I used but I think there should be guidelines in place where a player is entitled to a minimum amount of football/hurling a month/year subject to availability, fitness and training.

How can the GAA expect to promote the game nationwide when club politics won't allow many players to even take part in the sport.I've been in that situation myself and I got fed up,I just walked away.

Talent can be acquired through getting more experience. You take for example,a young player who is starting to play GAA,he may not be on form or any good but each time he gets 10 mins on the pitch,he will improve. Many players get one chance to prove themselves and if they haven't,they are expected to be relegated to the sidelines.

Also,I think membership of a club as a player should entitle that player to play football/hurling.Its like paying the same fees as everybody else to a golf club only to be told that you can't play because there is a competition on for the over 65s.
