Has anyone used the mini pc available at marx computers??
    http://www.marxcomputers.ie/html/geodemore.htm

I was thinking of something like this hardwired with a small monitor in my van for work. Using a 3g datacard for accessing online documents.

I've got a laptop ,but it's not easily hidden .

Would love to mess around with one.

Only thing is the specs, only 500mhz and only usb 1.1, might be better getting an old laptop with broken screen, for the same price you might be able to get usb2 and something above 1ghz. But thats going to be a bit bigger

Will have to look for some reviews on this, see if there are any benchmarks

Thanks eolhc ,speed wasn't a worry for me ,I was concerned about so many parts being so close together ,causing either major static build up or overheating.
These little yokes probably need a good ground ,to disipate the static?.

Edit ,the plus with this unit is it runs on 5W power.(Hard to believe and probably why it's usb 1.1)

Very nice. Could make for a nice home server. A Mac mini looks a lot better though.

I work for Marx and have seen the Geode in action. But I'm not here to advertise it so I'll keep my mouth shut lol. All I will say is that it would mostly be aimed at an office PC or thin client, somewhere that space is a premium.

Yore taking the piss right ? This yoke as a home server?

    40GB 2.5" HDD
    Fanless & Noiseless
    Very low power usage (ca.5W)
Can run Windows CE, Linux or WinXP
please read this info on OS install
    4x USB1.1,Stereo in/out,VGA(1600x1200)
    Realtek Sound ALC203
    Realtek Ethernet(10/100 Mbps) RTL8139DL
    Dimensions: 13 x 14 x 3.5 cm; 0.55kgs inc. HDD
external mini power supply (12V,2 pin)

If im correct this piece of crap was developed for third world countrys that couldnt afford proper pc's

It would be cheaper to pick up a miniAtx board, cpu, ram and use a old hdd lying around and just grab a small media centre case. And a cheap 200w psu.

I recently picked up a 2.6 northwood p4 cpu, and a miniAtx mobo for 60 dolla, I have 1gb of spare ram, a **** load of hdds and dvd/cd drives spare. All i have to do is pick up a small psu. And i should have a build for 100 dolla. And it would be 10 times more powerfull.

I personally see no need for this geode yoke in this country, even hidden in a van. As it would be just as easy to use the system i have and strap it in the back

Someone please tell me this'll decode your standard 350MB hour long MPEG4 file semi-decently. Need to replace xbox.

Any possibility of getting the DT168 rather than teh DT166? (i.e. the LX model with the faster processor and up to 1Gb of RAM and 8Gb of flash memory?)

Doh- I should checkin more regularly.....
