I have decided to start this thread just to see what comes back on it

I would like to see 4 players on a team which u would like to see represent us as the Hendon Mob do ....

Please dont say andy black / donnacha o dea / Padraig parkinson ETC
    That would be too easy

If u were to put the best 4 players together in your opinion who would u pick in Ireland .....
Mine would be at this moment in time

    Roy Brindley
    Nicky Power
    Dave O callaghan
Toss up between - Rob Taylor / Flipper / Kp nuts
Think Rob would get the nod on this at the mo

Someone already came up with this idea...!!!

    copyrighted already.

Fox and nicky deffo in there.
Nicky should get an Osker for his no-card all in move. Move of the year.

there are multiple poker mobs/crews/cliques in the UK, ireland could do with a couple to read about

you have to included Paul Rigger, he's had a great run online and I've played with him a few times, really respect his game and if he puts a chip into a pot, he doesn't let go easy. Any of the big tourneys I've played with him in the last few months, he's been able to get a good stack and keep it till the last 18 players or so. Expected to see if do good things in the future and he's currently full time

If we're talking about a mob simialar to the one in the UK then it would have to be made up of one very good player, one average player, one below average player and one absolute donkey.

    steve mc lean

    leslie mc lean

    Patty Mc Lean

    allen mc lean

not necessarily in that order, but i wouldnt wanna play on any table with the 4 of them on it

    thinking of winning??

    then
the phrase " No Chance" comes to mind,

you wouldnt know whether you were coming or going and if any one of them raised, you could be certain of only 1 thing, they could have anything from the nuts to having to play the board.

    Fuzz Box - very good
XXXX - Above average (I only know 1 good poker player)
    Twerg - below average

The good news is i personally know 10 players who can sub in for spot 4

Oh and Twerg yes i never stated how below average you actually are

was thinking about this over the weekend and its a live team you want, the players that impress me the most and dont already have big profiles and would work well as a team:

Dave & Niall O'Callaghan, both players have excellant live records and Niall is due a big result
Paul Higgins, again doing a lot of things right and as been there or there about in the last few months
Dave Masters, has a solid record loves the challenge and is always around the bubble

    Subs:

Flipper, think he's moving to online play more and reading is Q&A session this week, full time is not a option for him
Rob, again I think Rob rathers the online environment, but a excellant back up player.
Nicky, always the man. Will have a big year this year.
HectorJelly, one of the best tourney players around, he would have to give up cash play first.

after that I think there's loads of other players there or there about. As for setting something like this up, its impossible, cost to high and return to low, they can work as a group of players and discuss game play etc, but I dont think you will get a sponsor unless its a rich backer. Did hear something about a investment house in the UK doing something like this do.

Would love to see it. Gl if you try

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

there are loads of players i would choose from.

MIKE LACEY, nicnic, flipper, daithio (david o'callaghan), roundtower, hj, gholimoli, mrpt, rob taylor,straddlefor6 (lyonsy), Captain Tom, myself (:p ), masters, halfbaked, flushdraw, kp, ollieboy, robin lacey, andrew leonard, dave callaghan and prob a good few i can't think of right now.

any 4 of the above would be a good team so next step you'd remove those who could not fully dedicate themselves to poker for the next 2+ years. And then of the remainders you'd need to pick 4 that got on well together.

Some of the nominees in this thread are hilarious if the selection process is based on poker ability.

OK, I will bow to all the pressure and allow someone to include me on a team where the sponsors will pay entries to all tournies for the teams players for a small cut.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Its funny how perceptions of ability dont always gel with results. Obviously I get to see a lot of tournies and a lot of final tables etc. There are players who are almost always there or there abouts when they play. Realisitically I would take someone who was always knocking on the door over someone with a single big result if we were talking about a "team".

    My 4 would be:
    Dave O'C
    Niall O'C
    Stephen McLean
    Kevin Fitzpatrick.

I could easily choose a completely different 4 players (KP, NFR, HJ, Robin Lacey) and still have a savage team. The four above are just four names that I know when they sit down I'm going to be writing their names a lot.

One interesting thing is that many people simply will not know Kevin Fitz here but if I was going to back any player I know to make the money in any tournament ... I think it would be him. Honestly, the guy is harder to dig out of a tournie then a tic. He has an unreal record of hitting money in tournies and has been a rounder on the scene for longer then some of ye have been alive :)

    DeV.

ps: Scott Gray and Kevin Fitz are well worth buying a pint and talking to if you were ever looking for someone to give you the straight skinny about going pro...

Ok, here's my team and if the opportunity arose to form a one with these players, I would certainly be interested. IMO, they are the best under 30's in the country.

    Dave O' Callaghan,
    Halibut2
    Niall O' Callaghan
    Myself
    Eoghan O' Dea

If any became unavailable, Rory Reese Brennan and Eoin Olin would be next up. Manager would have to be Neil Kelly. He can talk for Ireland!
