cracked chimney

The chimney on our eight year old house has a very nasty looking crack on it which on inspection looks much more serious that just bad plastering.
This house was built by 'direct labour' and what I want to know is who do I go back to about this. The crack started just after we moved in - as an innocent looking hairline - but has progressed.
I spoke to our engineer 5/6 years ago and he just shrugged it off as bad plastering. What do I do? Thanks

First thing you do is only post the thread once.

How wide is the crack now? Possibly settlement.
