While in work today I casually heard something on the radio about female sperm. Apparantly scientists are working on some sort of female sperm that will allow the ladies to conceive without the assistance of men. I think the report (I was in a store at the time and it was hard to hear what was being said but...) mentioned that it was somehow connected to bone marrow.

Anywho, regardless of the fact that I may have some of the points above incorrect, the simple truth is that they are working on a way for women to conceive without the need for a man to be involved.
Is this the end for us poor men? Do you remember growing up and watching the movies where men had been removed from society as there was simply no use for us?

What do you folks reckon of this news?

    Why do women need men?
Cause vibrators can't do the dishes...

    OT Female sperm, seems unlikely

Meh tbh, such a non-issue for the vast majority of the population really. It's only going to be important for hardline Christians/Muslims/whatever and lesbian couples wishing to conceive.

Apparently the benefits will be to help infertile men reproduce. Or so they say.

Would getting themselves pregnant produce a clone or a incest bred freak?

Just like the siamese twins "if one has sex was the other raped?" problem, these are the essential questions!

But who will explain movies to me and tell me constantly that my parking is crap?

Yea, genetically that would be even worse than any form of incest, be it with parent/sister/cousin.

Well, If its her X with another girls X chromo, I doubt there would be any problems. I'd be more worried about her using the turkey baster on herself.

Who funds these things?? Who goes into biology or whatever thinking they will make the world better by creating female sperm? Gawd, the more I hear of scientific developments these days the more I just want to regress into religion. At least that way some things are sacred!

Did anyone else flinch at the picture in that BBC article..... number 3 in the series at the end

A syringe..... into my what? :O

I'm 20% worried about this new development. I would be interested to see what the kid actually looks like.

I can imagine the conversation -

Classmate: Did your mommy and daddy tell you about how you were born? My mommy said a stork delivered me!
    Kid: eh, erm...

Meh, if they can do this I can't see it being long before they can grow babies outside the womb. Something which I would fully support. No more abortion debates, men and women more equal than ever etc.

Or even simply male pregnancy via a uterus transplant and hormone therapy.

I love all this "playing God" stuff, really intriguing.

And probably more significantly, I seriously doubt biology will either.

In al fairness if we were even remotely close to being able to produce sperm from bone marrow WE'D ALL HAVE SUPERPOWERS!!!!

    ..I'd be colossus...

Ask any woman on the street - "Would you be happy if there was no need for men any more?". The vast majority will say no. Women love their poontang just as much as we men do. Not to mention companionship and all that stuff.

It will be hundreds of thousands, if not millions of years before good old fashioned romping is replaced as the primary means of reproduction.
