    Hi all,

My worst nigtmare, the screen has cracked on my uch beloved samsung digital camera, Im not really big into developing photos etc but I do carry this baby everywhere with me and snap shots of interesting things, particularly on some of the army ranges in the wicklow mountains etc.

I have salvaged all photos off it and removed the card, the screen has cracked on the inside (LCD screen) and has leaked across the remainder of the screen.

I bought the camera in Lanzarote last year, i have a european warranty, I dont know if that'll cover it because its a screen breakage, saying that it was in a protective case when this happened. Someone may have sat on it, we were in a restaurant.

Where could I get it fixed? Is there a samsung Ireland? Ive checked the internet and couldnt find anything on it. Samsung UK seems the only place, the warranty expires next month. Is there a repair place in dublin etc that may be able to help me? The camera is a Digimax L50.

I love this camera, please help!?!

Hi all, spent morning searching for a repair place instead of working, but its been constructive.

Samsung in ireland is handled by Hahnel Industries Ltd in Cork, phone number is 023-41606.

They have quoted me 113.50 euro to fix the screen, 80 euro labour, 20 euro part, (or vice versa, cant remember which) plus VAT and they will deliver it back to me within 2 weeks of recieving it.

To buy a new one would cost close to 200 euro.... what will i do!? Im skint at the minute so I think I will get a repair done and a better protective case when thats finished.

Have I misread your thread by saying you are skint but are willing to pay for the repair when its dearer than buying a brand new one??

If it was me, then the new one would be the route to go as you get the new warranty too.

Good luck with it either way

    €113=€80+€20+VAT

Had a look on pixmania, this is a similar spec'd camera 7mp for the same price as the repair(although it uses aa batteries)
    http://www.pixmania.com/ie/uk/356535/art/pentax/optio-m20.html
not recommending the pentax(i do like them though), but just saying why pay to repair an old camera when you can get a new one at the same price. plus you won't be waiting for the repair etc. Online you should find a good a replacement thats as good as the samsung for close to the repair price

if a new camera was twice the cost of the repair, I might start to consider the repair

Well, I thought about it and although I loved that camera, I decided it was too much to repair, now its been over a year but back in July I got a new sony ericsson K800I phone and its digital camera has been filling the void left by the Digimax.

Time has come now to finally buy a proper replacement camera though, can I have some reccomendations for a good camera (preferrably NOT AA batteries) for around 100 - 150 euro?? Not much I guess, but im not THAT big into spending much on cameras.

    Thanks for any help.
