Was that the year they played 3 games, just one short of the Dublin/Meath saga of 1991? There was a 3 match set around that time alright, possibly then. There was one really good match, which I think was the second one. Offaly won Leinster in 1997 though, beating Meath in the final. Kildare then won Leinster in 1998.

How fitting that this match is being played ten years on.I will probably go to Croke Park for this match or either watch it from the comfortable comfines of my living room with Bulmers and ice in hand.

I expect Kildare to hockey Meath in this match for the fact that Meath have been off the boil since losing to Dublin in 2005 and Kildare are in top form in this years league.I hope that this match won't be low key and that the sun is out in full force. :)

It might be worth staying at home to see Colm O Rourkes reaction if his beloved Meath lose but I hope Meath win as Dublin-Meath matches are always something special.I'd be weary of Kildare at the moment, they look like a dangerous prospect this year with Doyle impressing and Dermot Earley an obvious threat.

    Still.....Dublin for Leinster ;)

Yeah it was an unbelievable match. Caught the second half onwards the other night. 3-17 to 2-20 was it? Some scoreline!

As a meathman , it both delighted and depressed me to watch the meath v kildare match of 1997. I can accept the fact that there is not as many talented players in the county as there was in 1997. However, it obvious that a large amount of meath players do not have pride in the jersey anymore. I have no doubt kildare will beat us in the first round. I dont think it will be a drubbing though.

The '97 series with Meath was the building block for Kildares AI final in 1998. The funny thing about it was that after that titanic battle, Meath were so exhausted that they got overturned by an average Offaly side in the Final.

I have to say, that is the first time I've heard a Meathman (player or supporter) conceed defeat before a final whistle. Neither current team is a patch on the late 90s version but I still expect a game full of intensity and I cant see there being more than a point or two in it.

Either way I'd expect the winner to give Dublin a good game, after that the Leinster final will be a breeze :D

Amazingly the bookies have Meath at 9/1 to win Leinster and Kildare at 16/1.
