    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a PC for general gaming and home use.

I know what I'm looking for reagrding memory, graphic card etc but don't know much about different processor types.

I was wondering what people thought of AMD Athlon (AMD® Live Technology - AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+) in comparrison to Intel (Intel®Viiv™technology-Intel®Core™2Duo E4300 processor 1.80GHz,800MHz,2MB cache).

    Cheers

Do you plan on overclocking at all, or are you to run it at stock speeds?

If you plan to run at stock speeds, or just a small to moderate overclock i would go for the amd chip. if you plan to go for a large overclock, i would choose the E4300, or even change that for a E6300. If you can afford it go for the E6600 as it is a good bit quicker then both the chips you mentioned. Also wait till the end of the month, as intel are about ready for their price cuts.

At stock speeds, these chips are practicially neck and neck. Amd has the upper hand in some games, and intel in the other. Intel genrally has the upperhand in media encoding and the likes, but hardly anything noticeable, as small as 1 second in some instances.
