Roaccutane

    Hi Folks,

I'm just beginning a course of Roaccutane for my acne. Now I know your not supposed to drink while on it. I'm a social drinker and with the long sunny days of summer coming around I can't imagine how I'm going to survive without alcohol - even a cold pint or two - so what I'm essentially asking is, are there people out there than did drink and found while on it and what effects did it have.

i know someone who was on it before and when she drank on it she used to pass out after a couple of drinks.

when she was off it it was grand.
she would have two or three drinks, be absolutly grand one minute, then we'd have to put her to be the next at the kind of 10' o clock mark, she'd then appear again at about 4am and would be in bits (ie shockingly bad hangover vommiting etc. etc)

You should never take any medication with alcohol.
    Google Roaccutane alcohol
There seems to be a lot of ppl asking this question.

Or ask your doctor (you prob know what he/she will say).

Shinners, I would say it would be very irresponsible for anyone to recommend you drink with medication.
You have two choices - drink or use the medication. Not both.

As has often been said, this is not a medical forum and the reason for that is that people whom are not qualified to do so are inclined to give medical advice, like myself (!) and the others who have replied to your post. Most notably those who proclaim that you should never drink alcohol with any medication. This is no more true than saying you should never drink alcohol.

Some medicines however, such as a VERY SMALL number of antibiotics (such as flagyl, most commonly), when taken with alcohol can cause sickness, or exacerbate the side-effects of other drugs (such as the drowsiness caused by antihistamines).

More specific to your post and what you're looking to find out: You should not drink while taking Roaccutane. I was on roaccutane in my younger days and drank the odd couple of pints with no notable side effect (thats what ya wanted to hear isn't it?) but everyone is different. You shouldnt.

Roaccutane is a nasty, nasty drug. I was on it myself. There are loads of side effects and I wouldnt compound it by adding drink.
Also take note of the sunny days you are mentioning. It increases your skins sensitivity to UV. So careful you dont burn.
As for the other side effects, its not a medical forum so I wont go into them. Everyone reacts differently. How bad is your acne?

All you need to do is not drink. It's not hard.

It would be very foolish to mix your medication with alchohol, especially when you KNOW yourself you should not.

My mate is on them and had literally half a bottle of Miller and completely broke out in spots over the next few days

Its a liver function issue, not a drug effect issue.

I was on it for over 2 years (only finished recently) and drank regularly whilst on it. Had no problems as a result of it. Everyone's different though, so I'm not gonna say whether you should or should not do something.

OP, ask your doctor. I cannot allow further posts to this thread. It is bordering on irresponsible.
