Strange ruling at the Irish Open Main Event

Finished 63rd, happy enough with my play, especially on day 2 when I was shortstacked for most of the day. I thought one ruling by Liam Flood was very strange.

It happened on Saturday night. I think there were 78 players left, very close to the bubble. It was the first hand back after a 20 minute break. We all posted antes and blinds and it was folded to mid pos. who raised to 16k. It was then folded to the bb who announced all in. Back to the raiser who sat thinking for about a minute. The silence at the table was shattered by Liam Flood who came over shouting that HE had not told dealers to restart after break and that all chips were to be returned and hands mucked. With that he stormed off. There was uproar at the table and eventually one of the other deputy directors was called over. (the merrion guy, seen alot on the tv, Dave I think. ) He made the reasonable ruling that action had taken place and the hand should be completed. Liam Flood then appeared and ordered the dealer to muck all cards pronto and return the chips to everyone.
The dealer, obviously embarassed did as he was ordered.
I am absolutely certain and the dealer agreed that before we started someone had announced through the microphone that we were dealing on in the main event.

Was there any grounds for Liam Flood making this ruling?

No idea. I'd normally assume that the hand should be finished, but it is a strange one.

happened during the Macau festival at Xmas and liam Flood was consulted as to what to do. Think he gave the same ruling as he did in the IO. I was still in the Main Event so I'm not sure of the details but maybe someone is... I think Zeik and a young chap were involved

Usually if action has taken place you must continue.... but the fact that the tournament had not restarted might over-rule this.

    On the other hand...
If the clock was not running, why should this table be dealt a 'bonus' hand?

this is hard to rule on. I remember when this happened to Zeik in the Macau. I don't think Liam was involved in the tournament there (maybe he was playing). I think going either way is OK so long as you are consistent, you will make someone unhappy no matter what you rule.

What is not OK is what happened here, Liam giving a ruling and then someone else being called over for a different ruling and then Liam overruling him again. The tournament director's decision is final and it should be made clear to all the players who that is. What happened here is a good example of the mismanagent of the Merrion Casino Club and a good reason not to play there.

Yeah, if the tournament clock hasn't started then the hand has to be voided. What do you do if after the hand a player has busted or loses a big pot and then says, "hey that hand shouldn't have happened the clock wasn't started"

oddly enough this exact thing happened in the 1000 game to me and a deputy director ruled we play on

then there was an argument and donal ruled play on

later, 2 players were knocked out in one hand and the button was misplaced on the table so that the player on the big blind ended up on the small blind

1 player mucked his cards and another played, then it was noticed and a ruling was called

i sat there with AA and next to play, you can imagine my moral dilemma

anyway, the ruling was that action had taken place and there would be 2 small blinds in the next hand

i argued by asking when would the player be on a big blind ? as he hadnt been on one
no, play on and finish the hand then 2 small blinds,

i raised as if on tilt and got a fish to go all in with pocket 9's

not very nice of me, but then i am not a nice person

you know that add for master card ???

well if you saw this guys face, you would say

    "PRICELESS" :cool:

If the clock was running then I think it should have been completed and Liam should have bollocked whoever started the clock and announced deal. If it wasnt then the hand should be reversed imho.

Liam should have been back at his station to be ready for the restart of play, if he wants to be cranky he can at least take some blame himself :)

    DeV.

Yea i remember this happening although not on our table, it was announced over the PA to "shuffle up and deal" but it was for the 1k side event not the ME.

It should have been clearly stated by the announcer which event he was refering to.
Its a tough one to rule on but imho the fairest way to proceed for everyone is that the hand is void.

i think mr flood slightly lost his marbles the weekend with the pressure he was under, i seen him bollick people put of it all weekend. if the clock was not running correct call if it was then it is the wrong call given action has taken place.

I didn't play in the IO nor was I in attendance but Mr. Liam "Gentleman" Flood was described to me as Liam "Pig" Flood because of his antics over the weekend

Maybe the IO has outgrown him :confused:
