hi i discovered i had a leak in my utility room on saturday, broke away a few floor tiles but couldn't find any pipes, eventually found the pipes half way up the wall,a simple push fit connection not pushed home.however the wall is made of poroton blocks they are absolutely soaking wet right through!i have a dehumidifier on constantly for the last few days but they are still soaked through.i suppose it may take a few weeks to dry out.my main worry is if the external render i have over my paroc wool insulation/poroton blocks became punctured would my exterior walls absorb water? i have never seen a concrete block absorb water like this, maybe i am worrying about nothing.anybody any ideas?

Just on the drying process, it will take many weeks!

My inlaws had the same problem in a new house with tiled floors
the dehumidifier was on for 2 weeks 24/7 : getting up to 30 litres a day to start with:) It was horrendous: the concrete floor slab was soaked and the water soaked up the concrete walls up to the 4ft dado rail

Cant help with the other issue as I know nothing about the construction u describe

Im tempted to move this to DIY but I will leave it for now as a few other users may find it beneficial.

hi thanks for that the dehumidifier has made little difference running 24\7,but i will leave it for a few weeks and see what happens.will probably ring the manufacturer tomorrow an ask their opinion,it does seem unusual for a building block to be so porous but i know they are unusual, will get there eventually.
    thanks again for your help

    Hi
Aren't poroton blocks made from a terracotta type of material? Isn't this somewhat permeable to water? I know of one familt who used these blocks in a house and the rain is coming throughb on of the walls even with the acrylic render.
Would be interested to know who bulit your house?

Edit by muffler: Dont even think about it

    hi babybuilder
now i am really worried,i had a guy fit a new flue on my boiler,he put a ladder against the wall and punctured the render,so when it rains does this mean my house will become a sponge? i reckon most people using this forum will know this man, shame on him.how dare he do this to my family and my home.i obviously cannot mention his name on this forum but if you send me a pm i will name and shame.thanks for your interest, everyone else seems to be running for cover! they know who i'm talking about

Just to add. Myself or smashey have no problem in allowing debate about various issues but this is one thread too many about the same house and the same builder. wornout, you need off-boards assistance in the form of an architect/engineer and solicitor. We are certainly not going to assist in that regard.
