I'd be interested in this myself.

I've used autostitch too and found it good. ptgui is another program worth checking out (although you do have to pay for it).

is the free demo limited in any way?

edit: i've just seen that they don't charge for it.

+1 for Autostitch, it does the job excellently almost every time. The only problem with it is that if for some reason it doesn't do the job, there's very little in the way of control.

You also might want to have a look at Hugin. It's based on Panorama Tools and free. However, I've tried it a few times, mostly under Linux, and it's never been an entirely satisfactory experience, and I figured life was too short to figure out exactly why - your mileage might vary though. Actually, for the benefit of jaqian, Autostich works very nicely on Linux under Wine - it saved my ass a couple of times when my old Win2k machine just wasn't up to it memory wise!

In the non free category, my favourite is probably PTAssembler. I did a comparision between the various affordable options last month, and IMHO it does a better job that the others (PTGui etc). At $39, it's pretty good value.

I've been trying autostich over the last two days and for a fully automatic program seems to do an excellent job

It's a good program but lately I've been getting a few memory errors.
I've been trying to bump the quality up to 100% and use 8/12images
from a 30D. A few mins later I get a memory error. Some might say I
don't have enough ram.... I think 4Gb is plenty :P

It is a very good program for your more basic pano. I've heard
photomerge in PS-CS3 is very good so I might try that out soon.

Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 Memory Support. The maximum amount of memory that can be supported on Windows XP Professional and Windows Server 2003 is also 4 GB. However, Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition supports 32 GB of physical RAM and Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition supports 64 GB of physical RAM using the PAE feature.

The virtual address space of processes and applications is still limited to 2 GB unless the /3GB switch is used in the Boot.ini file.

also, i vaguely remember hearing that the 4GB limit on XP includes the pagefile; so if you have 4GB of RAM and a 2GB pagefile, the pagefile effectively limits the RAM available.
