Tapes to mp3s??

    This probably is in the wrong section but is there an easy/cheap way to turn cassette tapes(audio) into mp3 files via pc, without buying an expensive converter?

    If you have a tape deck with an audio output (not the headphone socket) and a sound card with a line in (most do) then you are laughing...

    Did I risk frying my soundcard or something, or is this a no-no purely on quality grounds? :confused:
    It will sound too base-y and distorted if the volume is not low because the signal is already amplified.
