Problem with large attachments running around the office

Our marketing and buying department are causing problems with large attachments. The same message may be propagated around to a few people in the office which uses up lots of bandwidth and also makes our exchange quotas hard to manage. Is there a solution where the attachement/file can be saved in some folder on the server and add a hyperlink to it in the email?

Yea.... save it to a shared drive that everyone has access to then, add a shortcut to the server/networked location.

Happens all the time in work, so people can update one spreadsheet etc....

To be honest you just answered your own question. Just put the files in a shared folder and link them in the email, problem sorted.

Edit - just noticed Lump said the same thing

You mean you want a fix but you don't want to implement it. Do you work in your companies IT Support department ?

    What about Exchange public folders?

It seems as though public folders are the only solution.

They are not the only solution, but they are probably the easiest solution.

You can use exchange archiving products ( like eas or KVS ) that will move data out of your exchange information stores and into a backend archive, replacing the original email content with a stub ( link).

Do you have a machine running Windows Server 2003 in the building? You could put the free version of sharepoint on it and that integrates easily with MS Office so it would take care of sharing out the documents.
