Windows Media Player and MPEG4

    Hi

I have a few mpeg4 files that I play on my Ipod. I can also play these on VLC media player. However Windows Media Player will not play them - I am getting a codec error. Does anyone know which codec I need, or is it even possible to play MPEG4 files on WMP?

    Cheers

There are many codecs under the umbrella of MPEG4 you need to get some specifics (eg. DivX, Xvid, x264 etc.). You can use the stream information under VLC to get the details. If it's nothing too exotic getting a decent codec package like Gordian Knot will do the trick, though you'll need to get a separate x264 codec.

Use the CCCP it will install directshow compatible decoders for all MPEG-4 ASP/AVC content.

it also includes MPC which is a directshow player like WMP but natively supports MPEG-4 in MP4/MKV containers. For WMP to play such files you must manually open them in WMP or associate the file type with WMP.
