    AV input (CVBS)

"Composite video is often designated by the CVBS acronym, meaning either "Color, Video, Blank and Sync", "Composite Video Baseband Signal", "Composite Video Burst Signal", or "Composite Video with Burst and Sync"."

    Crazy Germans, Jah ?

    fantastic_tv.jpg

    "TV dimensions: 1040mm (W) x 741mm
    (H) x 258mm (D)"

    that doesn't sound right for a 47" tv ?

Look kinda similar to my LC2R model

Composite is different to Component though. Component is HD capable while Composite isn't. The likes of the X360 usually use component.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,225 ✭✭✭Scruff

Are you sure that was an LCD panel TV and not a rear-projection TV?

I think it was a CRT, but still -- excellent quality, HD-ready and 50" screen.

A 50" CRT?? Holy crap, I'd like to see that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

I dont think CRT's can be made that size due to limitations of the design. More than likely he got a sony kdfe-50 which is a rear projection tv and they were going for about 1500 in the sales and sell for about that now. Used to be around 2000. Very good tv's for the price but RP is not for everyone

Can anyone who has been TV shopping recently give me prices that properly compare with this TV from Aldi?

Specifically looking at 42+ inch 1080p LCD TVs. Are they easy to get in Ireland? What's a typical retail price?

Is the integrated digital tuner standard on TVs like this? If not, is it a significant selling point in Ireland?

    Cheers

Couple of things about Aldi tvs.

    1) I bought the 42ich plasma and it is excellent - couple of teeting problems but the picture actually gets slightly better as time goes on. Great with xbox360. Very happy with it.

    2) The limit on Debit cards is usually 500 and i think the Aldi limit matches this. They do not take Visa so its cash for this really. You cannot sread it over a number of cards either. When I handed over 1500 in 20's the people behind me nearly fell over.

    3) The question regarding good value is moot. You will not get a cheaper 1080p tv around. Dont even bother looking.

I would check out www.avforums.com before buying it though. Any problems are identified very quickly there.

This is not true,I have two experiences with aldi both times spending over €1000 (€1100 first time, €1400 the second time) on my laser card with no issues. A fried of mine had trouble using his laser when he tried to put like 6000 on it in one transaction and it would not do it, he called the bank and they said you would have to let us know if such a large transaction was going to go thru. But this was after he got home and had just used the visa in the mean time.

i just followed that link you gave >spockety<

i pickd up one of these 47inh tv's last thursday,I still hav'nt switched it on yet cause i cant find the instructions off the wall bracket anywhere!
But anyway with all the Bad feedback about this tv set Im half thinking about returning it to my nearest store. i remember buying a 28/32 inch tv from them about about 2 years ago and it was 100% a waste of time & money the sound was all messed up and it just didn't work right.

what do you make of this 47in model ??

Dixons, pc world and currys are doing a 50" Samsung plasma, for 1800.

We picked up the 42" version there for 1200. Bargin. It looks amazing with standard digital or dvds.

I know its not 1080p but still it will be a long time before that format is fully utilised.
