That's the provisional date for the National Submission Championships.

Should I push the NSC back another week to accommodate?

UFC 72 will now be held in Ireland on July 7th and will be known as UFC 73, meaning that on June 16th UFC 72 will be held but as yet no venue has been decided (we'll keep you posted).

The rumoured fight cards for all three event are as follows:

    UFC 73:

    Anderson Silva vs. Nathan Marquardt
    Tito Ortiz vs. Rashad Evans
    Sean Sherk vs. Hermes Franca

Yeah :D I'm assuming that we won't have the pleasure of seeing the Silva and Ortiz fights here in Ireland??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 407 ✭✭weemate

I think if you read the article properly,UFC72 is just being re-billed as UFC 73 so the Griffin bout etc will be here. They are trying to get as many 'Irish' sounding names on the card as possible by the look of things. The Ortiz/Evans match up will be elsewhere.

Until its officially announced by the UFC no one completely knows.

Oliver Copp, the German announcer for UFC said last night in an interview that the event is taking place in Dublin. I'm not saying he's right but I think we'll just have to wait to hear officially first.

That would be amazing, really like Brandon Vera.
And of course having it in Dublin would be pretty great.

    More from Oliver Copp:

My latest info, directly from Marshall Zelaznik (head of the UFC UK division) is that it's going to be Dublin and they're trying to find a date which fits both the Point's schedule as well as that of the UFC and the fighters. Belfast is definitely their backup in case they can't find a solution, although people at UFC are v-e-r-y weary of running the city for security reasons.

If this was in Dublin i would crap myself.

    Genuinely.

    This is from ufcjunkie.com:

Report: UFC 72 to Take Place in Belfast, Ireland
Posted by UFC Junkie on April 12, 2007 at 3:00 am ET

Ireland’s UFC 72 event, which is rumored to feature a headline fight of former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin vs. Martin Kampmann, will take place at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Ireland, on June 16, according to The Fight Network.

Sherdog.com reported last week the main-event fighters and the fact that the event would be held in Ireland, but UFC 72’s venue remained a mystery.

However, according to The Fight Network (citing sources in the UFC’s recently opened United Kingdom office), the event will take place in Ireland’s biggest indoor stadium, which is part of The Odyssey, a large sports and entertainment center situated in Queen’s Island, Belfast. The venue is home to the UK Elite League’s Belfast Giants ice hockey team and can accommodate more than 10,000 spectators.

The UFC will host its next event on April 21 in Manchester, England, at the M.E.N. Arena. It will be the UFC’s first show outside the U.S. since “UFC 38: Brawl in the Hall,” which was held in London in 2002.

The UFC recently opened its U.K. office with the accompanying announcement that the organization would explore an international roster of host cities, which could result in an event in Mexico (with Mexico City a likely option) that could be held as early as the end of this year.

Additionally, should the rumored deal between UFC and HBO continue to stall, UFC 72 could be shown on Spike TV on a tape-delay basis, similar to the setup for next weekend’s UFC 70 event, according to a recent Wrestling Observer report.

The report also states that a Forrest Griffin vs. Hector Ramirez bout could be added to the UFC 72 card.

The event will be the first ever held in Ireland.

Mike Goldberg said while commentating on UFC 70 in Manchester that the UFC was going to Las Vegas for UFC 71 then Belfast for UFC 72 then back to the States and then Southern Ireland!

If this happens it will be amazing, I don't even care what the fight card is, I'm there.

With the depth the UFC is building these days in all weight divisions then we could see some great fighters and the UFC has a tradition of giving hometown fighters a chance so we might see some local talent.

I'm gonna sell my car for a front row ticket, anyone wanna buy a crashed Almera?
