I have been watching lost from day one, never missed an episode, but i would like to know where in god blazes are they heading with this program. The submarine idea was bad and there are one or two things in lost now that are starting to bug me.

I heard someone the other day referring to lost as s--- when they saw a bit of it the other day ( this person never watched it from day one ) and i could not defend lost, i did not even try, whereas last year i was defending it.

I have to keep watching it now, i cant leave it.

Oh, that ad clip of Jack in a tv studio saying " its the best program on tv now" ----bull i say to that, last year i would not have said bull. I guess he has to say it as he wants to a be a major star.

Nobody is forcing you to watch it ffs....

The clip of Matthew Fox saying that it's the best show on television isn't far from the truth. I watch Lost, Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Ugly Betty, CSI etc. and Lost is my favourite. The fact that you are still watching it despite your dislike with where the show is going just shows the pull factor that the programme has.

I agree that the poorest episodes of Lost have been in season 3 but, bar 'Expose' (and thats just IMO), the last few episodes have been excellent. And I would have thought that people like you who aren't enjoying Lost this season would have changed their minds after those episodes.

Nah, Season 2. Definatly. I can watch Lost now, unlike some of season 2 which was unbearable. Namely Michelle Rodriguez. STFU Michelle!!

Yea Lost was at its worst during season 2. It was during season 2 that the pace really dropped and everyone realised we were going to be drip fed the plot from then on. Having come to terms with that though season 3 has been generally very good.

Easier said than done, anybody who's watched serials that went on for longer than they should have (ahem... X-Files) will know that once sucked in, no matter how much patience you lose watching the show, you can't get out of it, it'd be like wasting a night every week for 3 years, you're not going to quit Lost now if you've been watching since day one.

I'd actually like to repeat the original question of the thread, but take a different angle in asking it.

Right, in season 1, it all built up to opening the hatch and in season 2, it all built up to what happens when the button isn't pushed. What exactly is season 3 building up to?

Like, the hatch idea was introduced about half way through in "All the Best...", the button not being pushed was introduced as early as the third episode of s2. There's been bugger all to suggest what the grand finale'll be this season, and we're 2/3 of the way through now...

Season 3 = telling us what the Island is and why there has been people living on it and working on it for many years. Also to explain what smokey is

The writers have said season 3 is all about the Others, so the larger questions of who they are and why they are on the island should be revealed by the end of this season. Also their connection to Dharma, smokey and the island itself should become clearer.

Yeah good point mate, where as in Season 2 they were following some sort of guide line, it seems in Season 3 that each ep is something new and is not really following a main theme.

I think the Season 3 cliffhanger will involve Penny Widmore and her gang showing up on the island. We haven't seen anything of her this season apart from Dessie's flashback so I think she's being kept for that.

Lost has great production values, good cast, savage sets, good special effects etc etc but the plot development is complete and utter sh1te

Excellent concept i.e. there's a plane crash, strangers on island, weird things happen, another group on island. All good yet how do they make it so slow moving and frustrating. Very little actually happens on the island each episode, while i do like the flash backs for character development it takes hugely from the progress made in the main plot lines.

I think Lost has cornered itself, the flashbacks prevent alot of progress on the island but the flashbacks are entertaining. They are a little shallow but I'm sure someday someone will realise they know each other through previous encounters and give it much more depth.

I don't see why every single episode in a series has to have a certain theme. IMO that would be pretty boring. there has to be more storylines than just one in any given series to keep viewers interested.

But if we're going by that than indeed

season 1 would be the hatch
season 2 would be the button
season 3 would be the others (plus smokey plus other hatches)

What's the problem?

I think what we are trying to say is that we have about 7-8 eps left in season 3 and the writers have so so much left to explain still. We are just saying it would be nice if they were sticking to some sort of theme.

Granted, you can get away with not having a theme in certain shows. CSI springs to mind, for example. But shows like Lost and 24 need some shape of a theme throughout the series. Lost is at another disadvantage in that it can't go off in a completely different tangent like 24 does at the start of every season either.

Lost needs to get something in the next couple of episodes that'll give an idea as to what's going to be uncovered in the finale. Otherwise, the finale's gonna be pretty useless.

Exactly. Unless you look at the spoilers, you haven't a clue what to look forward to or be able to might any rational predictions as to what's gonna happen next. Like, as soon as Locke dropped Boone's torch hitting the hatch, you wondered WTF was going on knowing that it'd probably be resolved in the finale. With this season, there's no idea what the hell they're going to do next...

This season is obviously building up to revealing who the Others are. And unlike last season which focused on hatches and buttons as the big mysteries, I feel this year is more about the people, these "others" and the mystery of their motivations. As such I think this series has remained very true to the spirit of Lost like we saw in the early first season.

I love the way the writers are bit by bit humanizing these figures who we previously viewed as villains. My favourite scene so far this season was the moment between Ben and Sawyer at the end of 3x04 when Ben revealed they were on another island. Great acting from Michael Emerson. I hate it when I hear people go on about Ben being so evil, I just see so many layers to his character. And I'm certain by the finale we'll discover Ben is actually a hero.

The last two episodes are meant to be Ben flashbacks. I wouldn't bet against your theory in that case.

I wouldn't say Ben's evil, just extremely manipulative. He's by far the best character in the show imo.

Yeah would love this also. Ben is a great character and as many have said before, he brings so many different views to the show. Would be nice to see the Island from his point of view as he was born there and not just how the losties see it.

Yeah,

Hurley’s imaginary friend, that was a poor ep but still funny in parts. As I said before, I think Season 3 is on par with Season 2.

I see what your all saying now about where season 3 is going but it's pretty obvious it's all about the Others so I presume there's going to be a llot more on them by the end of the series.

When you think about it, season 1 was very slow moving. They hadn't even opened ONE hatch by the end of season 1 and how long were they supposed to have been on the island? I loved season 1 - it was probably the best series, but you can't have the best of both worlds. People say they want answers yet now that things are getting a bit clearer in season 3 people are still complaining.
