I see that our national treasure that is mister Pat Kenny is on two weeks off again. He will then be off for another 2 months for the summer. I regularly listen to the BBC - none of their presenters get the colour of the time off that our highest paid presenter gets.

not really true is it? The exact same things are said about Terry Wogan over in the UK. Do you not regularly listen to Terry and already know that?

TBH I dont listen to Terry Wogan. I do listen to Steve Wright and he does not take the colour of those holidays. I also listen to Capital Gold on a Sunday night and the DJ Greg Edwards that does the soul programme I listen off is very rarely off.

I just think that it's a bit ridiculous to be paying Kenny so much and then he is not even on air an awful lot of the time.

I would'nt blame Kenny. You would do the same if you could. I blame the management in RTE who seem to think because they get easy money from licence fees they can be feckless in their spending.

Blame whoever negotiated the contract that allows for this to occur.

For how long a period does Kenny and the other stars get a contract ?

i remember Gaybo saying he was always on a 3 month rolling contract for that purpose. seems a bit redundant though doesn't it i mean they know they have the power over RTE management or they wouldn't be getting away with it.

Should be noted Kenny always does a stint during Christmas week when no-one else is on air.

    Mike.

Wogan doesn't disappear for months on end, he might disappear for 3 weeks on the trot, but has regular weeks off during the year.

Ken Bruce, on at the same time as Kenny on the radio on BBC Radio 2, is off this week and next week.

I'm sure you'd find that people who only do specialist music shows present their programmes 52 weeks a year, and often pre-record them if they are away. Brian Matthew, who presents Sounds of the Sixties each Saturday morning on BBC Radio 2, didn't miss a programme for more than 10 years, until illness interrupted his run.

As noted here many, many times, Pat Kenny is one of those that comes close to actually working to get the salary he does.

The needle returns to the start of the song, and we all sing along like before.
