When i went to put on my mp3 player yesterday evening after work, noticed that the left earbud thing wasn't working... They're a set of Sony Mdr-something, the ones that kinda go into your ear... They're class pair, except now only getting sound in 1 ear.... If i twiddle the earbud a bit you can hea fuzz but thats it... Are they broken? Or could they be fixed? Cos they cost me around 35sterling (got them in london when my old ones got stood on) and i've only had them less than a year...

Mess around with the jack - my Sony mdr-ex71's only work (out of both left and right) if I have the jack a certain way. I actually have to have the jack partially out of the remote for both channels to work... but only when it's connected to the player through the remote.

So my beef is with the remote part!

Ooh ooh ooh I know this one !!

If it's these ones I've had the same problem. I use them in the gym (gross alert !!) and they get quite dirty from sweat and earwax.

If you take off the rubber buds you will notice little vents around the outlets where the buds came from. You'll find these are probably clogged with dirt. Clean them (do both) and they should work better than before.

Hope this helps. They're very nice 'phones except the cable is too short, or too long with the provided extension.

    Regards

    ZEN

Could the problem be with the MP3 player and not the headphones? Have you tried the headphones on another audio device?

You don't mention which MP3 player you have... which is it?

A dodgy headphone socket is quite a common fault, for example, with certain models of Creative Zen (particularly the Micro's).

Nah, checked it in my radio at home, exact same problem and another set of earphones work grand... I have an iRiver h10...

I think it's just Sony being lazy and not making a product that doesn't break, every single Sony thing i've owned in recent times (mainly headphones but i did own a minidisc player couple of years ago) has broken at some stage or another... Just goes to show that the most popular is generally not the best (far from it....)

well a year is not too shabby a time for headphones to last..

but id guess you just broke a soldered connection. thats why when you twist the earpiece the cable is hitting off a contact giving you the static.

get a soldering iron and take em apart. if theyre bust already you have little to lose and experience to gain.

and if they are openable like many are then its not too hard to fix.

and from now on stop picking up the player by the cable, theyre not ment to hold weight.
