Travel to the US

Two of us (husband and wife) thinking of doing the american holiday thing. Fly to New York then onto San Fran and take about a week to drive to LA. Just wondering has anybody done this? Another idea we have is doing the Rockies Trail (by Rail). Has anybody done this one? Would like a bit of advice re driving there?…

Would like a bit of advice re driving there? Although was in the States many years ago and did a lot of driving just wondering if it is easy enough on the coast road to LA.
