Hi dont worry i am not advertising. I am a classical singer and people have often suggested i do weddings and i have been asked to do one for a friend i have agrred to do it for free. But i was wondering is there much call for church singers , do many people have them ? I was thinking that to do it for money seemed like a lot of work but if there was enough demand it might be worth looking into doing now and again but i dont know if there is much call for them. Did many people have church singers at their wedding here?

I did not think that most people would bother. But i thought i would ask. I dont know where people would even advertise really. If people do have experience of this can i ask did you choose the music and the singer learnt it or were you offered a choice from their repetoire?

    Thanks
And congrats to all who are getting married.

We are having a singer, but it is a member of the choir sugested by the church organist. The organist also suggested what song she sings.

I think it's a great idea, but I'd suggest the way in may be through the Church themselves.

    Howya,
World of mouth seems to be how most singers get around. Once you do one wedding, and someone in the congregation hears you singing, so-and-so ends up taking your number and before you know it you need to buy yourself a little diary and need to put every second Saturday morning aside for weddings. I have played the organ for such a singer... I got the music off her 2 weeks beforehand and had about 1/2 hour with her just to hear how she sings, and we met next about 1 hour before the wedding mass in the church and got set up, went through the 6 or 7 songs... and luckilly we pulled it off on Take-1. If you're good, you will be able to do the same.
Spread the word among your friends... do the first one for free (or a very small price). Then make it very clear that you charge if anyone asks. I think the lady I played with got about €180, but another professional singer at my friends wedding got 250 (seemed steep... ok she was good, but the one for 180 was just as good). Depends on how much you think you're worth really...
    In short, go for it.

Well i trained to be an opera singer and gave some student operatic performances for a while. I trained with a lady who was an opera singer with the Met in New York. But my sight singing is not that great. I found that church singers through churches generally were not that great in standard.Although there can be exceptions.

I am not actually a christian so it maybe difficult for me to go through the church.

But yeah i guess word of mouth would be the best way i would hate to go around pushing myself.

I think that i would like to give people their own choice it is their wedding and i can learn things pretty fast.

What song is she singing by the way?

    And congrats on the Wedding.

    Thanks collumbo and fratten fred.
