Hi all, some advice needed. I have decided to propose to my boyf on his 30th birthday this year - I'm taking him to Amsterdam as a surprise on his birthday and will propose while I'm over there. I would like to give him something - even just a token gift, but can't think of anything.
He doesn't wear jewellery, and has a gorgeous watch that he doesn't want to change. I had thought of a commemorative coin from the year he was born but can't find anything.
    Any ideas?
Obviously, it can't be too big or else he will see it coming a mile off.

What hobbies does he have, if hes into football or gaa or rugby then maybe see if you can get the team he supports to sign something saying congrats on engagement - will take a lot of ringing around but people are very nice when it comes to things like engagement so Im sure someone would help you out. Or if hes into cars a day at mondello or a flying lesson? I dont know, blokes are hard to buy for, I was racking my brains what to get my dh when we got engaged bec I wanted to give him something, was thinking of a watch but he sussed it and said if I really wanted to get him something then get a bmx!! I thought he was joking but it was what he wanted so its whats he got!

you can never go wrong with a good gadget.

iPod, mobile phone, GPS device, compact binoculars that turn into a ray gun:D

we all think we are James Bond so the more gadgets we have the better ;)

Medal for you. We poor men get the short end of the stick on the engagement side of things, I applaud you!

Gadgets are cool, maybe a really class watch. Those day out things are great too.

(Showed Mrs MarkR - She recommends a nice diamond solitare ring. For you. Women!)

Edit - scratch the watch thing. Didn't read your post entirely!

Ooooooooh. Vouchers. For the bedroom. *nods head* Niiiice.

What about getting him an iPod - and have it engraved?

OH OH OH !!! You could get an iPod video, and VIDEO yourself proposing - pop it on the aul iPod. Then let him open it - and tell him to find the vid + press play!

Our first christmas together I asked my then boyf what he wanted to which he replied a leatherman wave- for those of you who dont know thats a knife thing with screwdrivers etc on it -a gadgety thing - I didnt get him one bec I thought it was too impersonal. he finally got one from me after 6 yrs together and 2 yrs of marriage last christmas. He was so happy he nearly wet himself and said it was the best present ever. I only got it bec I couldnt thing of anything else. Men want the complete opposite to what women think they want - has he a mate that you get on well with that you could ask for help without fear of him spilling the beans??! Otherwise get a hollywood with those little sparkly things on eh you(!!) saying will you marry me - its a present for him and an easy way for him to say yes all in one!!

cool. Perfect for when you need to break into a secret base in the Bahamas and assassinate someone about to take over the world, that and a Rolex of course ;)

I have a small hip flask/cigarette case (engraved) which was given to me when i acted as best man once. It's no use because it's too small to hold cigarettes and you can only get one shot of whiskey in it, but it is brilliant and will look great in the glovebox of my 1965 DB7 (when I get it:o ).:D

OP, Although you say he has a watch, that is like saying you have a ring so why get another. Any man would be impressed with a nice Breitling, Omega, TAG or Rolex watch, especially if it's engraved.
