I've been buying quite a few Jelly Belly beans (partly because they are addictive, partly because they make great pressies). I've always been irked at the difference in the price between them in the States and here- but have now found an ebay'er who is shipping them here very reasonably (note: the userid worms4sale is a bit unusual- he also sells topsoil and stuff).

    http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZworms4saleQQssPageNameZSTRKQ3aMEWNQ3aMESOI

US$25 for 4lbs of Jelly Belly beans inclusive of shipping to Ireland....... yummy.....

Hmmmmmmmm.... Jelly Beans from a guy who sells worms and topsoil.

    What could go wrong! ;)

If he could merge his business and sell those jelly worms... nyum-nyum!

Mmm so much sugar. I've just after watching "How Its Made" on Discovery Channel and they were showing how gummy worms are made! A sign...surely. :)

Here's why they are so expensive over here.

Jelly Belly sell to Best Foods in UK who have exclusive distribution for Uk & Ireland. - They have their own costs for taking them from USA to UK, + profit & distribution margin.

best Foods in turn have given distribution in Ireland to a company in Northern Ireland - Berryhill Foods, who have to ship from london & have to add profit + distribution costs.

They then sell to Irish retailers (very few) and retails have to add a profit margin onto them.

So a bag of 300g in USA is $4.99 + sales tax it suddenly becomes €7.99 - €8.99 (incl 21% vat) over here. - I used to sell them in Special Days at €5.95 because I was able to bypass distribution channels.

They are gorgeous by not worth €9 a bag! - You never know, I might have them back in the new webstore www.giftmaster.ie

Errrr- they're nothing like Jelly Belly Beans...... Totally aside from the flavour- which the Lidl ones are lacking in, the Lidl ones are almost totally sugar- whereas the Jelly Belly ones are very high in fruit pectins (I have to see that Discovery Channel documentary on them.....)

That may very well be. However they are similarly priced all over Europe- the regular 5oz bag (about 150grammes) of sour Jelly Belly beans is 3.50 in Le Bonne Marche in Paris, 2.99 in Brussels in a newsagent and 3.50 in Lisbon (El Corte Englais)- roughly the same as here.

The 4lbs for US$25 inclusive of shipping works out at about at about US$2 per 5oz or about Euro 1.50...... less than half the Irish retail.

They are a great price, but remember your not comparing like with like, the ebayer is selling "Belly flops" in other words, mis-shapes, 2nds, B-grades, whatever you like to call them. Most manufacturers discount such product by 40%. (Not trying to justify the rip-off republic in any way.)

Was this long ago? From the jelly belly beans i've seen on sale in Ireland they're all made by Aran Candy distributing out of Blanchardstown, they have a licensing agreement in place. Aran candy actually sell belly flops as well but the only place ive sen them is in a 450g box for €2 in poundworld. Don't know if there is a massive difference between Jelly Belly USA beans or Jelly Belly irish beans but i'd say so probably not more than what €5 is worth but then its a mater of taste. Just beware the jelly beans in Poundworld if your buying make sure their by Aran Candy , are mishaped and probably have some speccled ones in there

Huh, so you think that you've got problems ?

I am going mad. I cannot find any more BLUE ones in boxes of Smarties. They have replaced the blue ones with diarrhoea coloured brown ones. What am I going to do ?

The Aran Candy beans are *not* Jelly Belly jelly beans. They sell their own beans under the "Jelly Bean Factory" trademark in Europe and under the "Jelly Bean Planet" trademark in the US/Australia. They are normally sold in vending machines along with other products :D Some of the flavours they have are similar to some of the Jelly Belly beans- but they are an entirely different product altogether. The Irish beans try to sell themselves on a GMO free platform- which is difficult when they are pitched against a premium product such as the Jelly Belly beans. Have a look at the Arancandy website- http://www.jellybeanfactory.com/

He ships all over the world. $10 shipping to Ireland. Tempting...

He ships internationally (including to Ireland), but not for the biggest bags.

I figured I'd jump in and answer questions regarding the Jelly Bellys I sell. I only sell original Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. Any other bean sold under a different name is NOT a Jelly Belly. I do ship to Ireland, currently shipping is a flat $10 per 4lb order. I do offer a suagr free Jelly Belly for those of you who are on a diet:) . Most of the beans I sell are called Belly Flops, they are still the high quality and great taste of the original. These however didn't make the final cut for the stores, ie: stuck together, odd shapes, etc. but you get these for alot less money. Hope this answer some of your questions.

Same here. It's the first time I've been given an automated tracking number like that when buying stuff on eBay (and they've all been delivered using USPS). It's still saying "Electronic Notification of Shipment Received" even though I ordered a few days ago.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

That just means that the item has been accepted by the postie I believe. I don't think the USPS number allows much more tracking after that.

That's pretty mucha delivery confirmation number. Can't figure out why the USPS doesn't scan and track like UPS or FEDEX. I can usually get the shipments out with 1 business day, excluding holidays.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 208 ✭✭Absolut

Yeah, I was thinking that. Still though, it's good to have an automatic tracking number (even if it doesn't actually track anything in any meaningful way).

Jelly Beans before chocolate anyday. To hell with all this Easter egg nonsense. An official "Jelly Bean Day" is in order.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 32,286 Mod ✭✭✭✭The_Conductor

    Cool!
Next Beers as a Jelly Belly Day- I'll take a 2lb bag with me for sharing round.
I won't be making the 7th, I'm taking Aoife to Portugal for a few days.

Yea, that was the unfortunate product of some Healthy-Eating Nazi War, the manufacturers got rid of the blue dye for some stupid reason...

And the blue ones were my favourite.

/edit: the official reason was because they were switching over to all natural colourings, and apparently blue is not a natural colour.

Damn I want these Jelly Beans NOW!!!!

The mot and I agreed to not exchange chocolate eggs this Easter.

Yesterday morning she presented me with a large box of Jelly Belly Beans - 50 varieties, about 20 of each bean.

€20 in TK Maxx Swords, discounted from €40.

If you had small kids you would know why they stopped the blue ones! A lot of kids used to get hyper on them because of the artificial colours.

Would most of that not be down to the massive sugar content? Atlhough the "brilliant blue" colouring they use is banned in a lot of countries

So has anyone got delivery of any beans yet? It's less than a week since I ordered mine but I'm just curious as the USPS link I was sent doesn't update and as far as I can tell it's just confirmation that the guy has notified them that he will be sending something. Not that they have even received anything from him.

Why oh why did you have to bump this thread??? I saw the words Jelly Beans and just had to go and buy some!

Bought mine over a week ago now, but still haven't gotten anything. Not that unusual when coming from the US though. Sometimes takes three weeks for me to get stuff in the post.

I never heard of these, they seem very expensive, how big is 4lb? how much jellys roughly.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,158 ✭✭✭Stepherunie

1 pound is 454g so 4 pounds would be 1816g or around 1.8kg.

I've had loads delivered. One point though is I find that delivery to work\business addresses is a few days quicker than to home addresses (then again my local postie is still on a bicycle- so 8 or 10lbs is a big deal for him).

From several deliveries I would guestimate that its about 7-8 working days for delivery on average (the USPS service used is global priority for letter post, which is quicker than for parcels, but still not the quickest).

Perhaps others could post up here how long their delivery times take (I bet the Dublin addresses take a day longer- all US packages go to Portlaoise for sorting now that the international sorting office on the Naas road is closed.......)

I take it they arrived ok?

If you like particular flavours its possible to order those that you like, instead of just the mixed flavours.

The exchange rate is handy too! :)

    Link to the beans!
