was actually thinking of driving down myself for the craic. So basically bring a passport/drivers license and i'll be fine or do i have to apply for membership of the merrion etc?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,394 ✭✭✭robinlacey

so everyone who is playing/watching has to join the merrion first?

not at all, I think you mean the final table possibly. I went down and walked around on day 2 wthout being questioned. (and im a dodgy looking charachter) Although I did enter a side game later.

Rule number 1 of the Irish Open

To participate in the Irish Open all players must become members of the Merrion Casino Club. To join players must present a copy of either their passport or driving licence upon registration

so no need to be a member of the merrion if you're going just to observe, best to bring id just in case or will there be any need?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,404 ✭✭✭Goodluck2me

id bring it just incase- sometimes you need to be a member to get into the room regaredless of whether your playing or not. ie. diublin ept

What would be the point of you playing sober however? :p

    none, obviously

being a good boy scout (not in the sense of buggering small children of course), I have prepared myself for all eventualities. My great grandfather's hipflask will be filled with a suitable beverage and be pressed into service....

what time should I turn up to hear your bad beat story and join you on the cash tables? Or will you become a roving reporter again?

19:00; Announce intention to help antes up
19:30; Start drinking to alleviate boredom

Brilliant LMAO :D mine is as follows
    Expected Timeline:
15:00 Talk really fast to anyone who will listen to me to get rid of nervous tension...
15:30 Spot Greg Raymor in the distance and realise if I don't start losing weight spoon im going to look like his twin sister
15:45 Go to the loo for the 100th time due to nerves,
16:00; Cards in the air - nearly puck from nerves
18:00; First break - combination of Star watching syndrome, everything passes me, stand close enough to hear Lloyd talking about how card deadness and bad beats leave him complaining to anyone who will listen about his decimated chipstack
18:40; Gone calling a guy who was "Making a move" but got runner runner straight...
19:00; Announce intention to help antes up, but go drinking Vodka instead
19:30; Have a chat with Lloyd while trying not to feel like a short arsed Drawf cause im standing too close to him.
20:45; After 5 - 6 Swift Vodkas, go over to tell Martin my tale of woe, shouting loud enough that the whole table can hear me, which leads Martin to tell me to F*ck off.
21:00 Leave Martins table in a snot for more drink and a cunning plan involving the Cash game, which ends in tears for all concerned.
23:00 Check into Hotel and pass out from Vodka Consumption, after wrecking the room looking for the Mini bar, while furiously texting Martin how much of a bo**ix he is for telling me to F**k off….

I'd say there is a 50/50 chance I will be sick enough to play the scalps game after getting bobbed or chiefed or eagled or hangmanned or other similiar about 7pm.

Lloyds and smurphs threads crack me up especially despite the new found optimism it's very likely to happen to me as well. We should have a boards scalp game afterwards so we can regale each other with our bad beat stories and get very drunk.

don't want to start a new thread on this so I'll hijack this one.

I'll be out of the country for the IO. will antes up or someone be covering it? I will have internet access at times. Is it online anywhere?

and what about the leprechauns and the snakes?are they DEF gone?

the leprechauns all moved to America to escape the potato famine

there, they invented poker and, in a curious twist of fate, it's coming back here this weekend
