Europe goes Online in May

Geat news but not so sure of the first game though....ah well, at least it's online...

    http://wii.ign.com/articles/777/777886p1.html

UK, April 3, 2007 - Forget Euro 2008, you can create your own European footie tournament with Mario Strikers: Charged Football, which is set for an EU release in May and features four-player online multiplayer.

Nintendo has announced players can battle it out on the pitch over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Service in two different online modes. There's Ranked, where you can climb up the leaderboards and Unranked, for quick play against pals.

For those without friends or Internet access, you're best to stick to the single player mode - Road to the Striker Cup. Here, players are pitted against increasingly difficult teams in three different cups. We'll go out on a limb here and suggest there's going to be a Mushroom Cup, a Flower Cup and a Star Cup. Call us crazy.

Mario Strikers is the follow-up to Mario Smash Football on GameCube. In the same vein as Mario Kart or Mario Slam Basketball, the actual sport of football is secondary to the over-the-top power-ups and fanciful stadiums full of traps and obstacles.

Of course, because being a Wii game and all, Charged Football features new Wiimote functionality. Players must shake the remote to tackle opponents or point at the screen to save the ball from blasting into the back of the net.

Mario Strikers: Charged Football hits the pitch on May 25 and costs £35 (50 EUR).

i wonder do any previously released games like call of duty have built in online play that'l be activated with a software update. seems a waste. they'll prob jsut release some new army type game to take advantage of it.

    good news indeed.

i presume this will mean more and more on-line enabled games will follow. like racing games, sport, first person.

or are we getting this one and then waiting for months for anothers??

Hmmmm.. too lazy to check but weren't the States not going online til June or July?

If so, a bit fishy that we're online first.

Sounds fun and if the online component is implemented well it could add some much needed depth to the game.

Yay. I wonder if Super Smash Bros. will be online? I wonder if there will be new channels like a leaderboard channel?

All i want from this service is for them to drop the friend codes... stop holding my hand Nintendo, i want to play games against the thousands of Wii owners that i don't trust.

It was announced that Pokemon was the first in the U.S. on June 25th as far as I remember.

Thought so... a bit suspect but maybe they're using Europe for beta-type testing.

Kudos to Nintendo all the same.

I thought Wii sports was going to be able to go online after they finally got the online portion of the service working ok. Software update to the wii to enable it to do so. Possibly pie in the sky but I hope its true.

i'd be quite happy to keep the friend codes and such, if they provided a wrapper around it that helped manage your collection of friend codes.

Lets say i have a friend, called Bob. Bob and i swap wii codes. Now, seing as i know and trust bob enough to have swapped Wii codes with him, when he gets Mario Strikers, people who have Bob as a friend, like me, get his Mario Strikers friend code over wiiConnect24, it's stored on my Wii, and everything is good.
Throw in a few ways to manage the handing out of friend codes, and such and there you go.

^^ thats a very simple way of looking at it
I'd still rather they got rid of all the friend codes and just let you play it like normal, waiting for an opponent in mario kart ds took ages sometimes

Might be a bit of a daft or obvious question but something i've overlooked..

.. will the Gamecube games which were playable online on the GC be integrated to play online alongside the Wii games?

Oh.. and any news on a fee for Wii's online play? I found this article (dated May 2002) which reported no access fee for online gaming on the GameCube.

Officially wasnt it only the PSO games that were online for teh GC??? I think there may be one or two other games but thats it. For the PSO games at least, no you will not be able to play them online as Sega took the servers offline last month.:(

^^ they kept it up for longer than I tohught they would

most depressing was when they turned off the worms 2 servers
    sniff will never forget that

Yeah it was quite dissapointing when the servers were turned off, Sega made the last month free, which was quite cool of them.
