    all

Anybody know of a method to reduce the noise level from apartment heating systems water pumps? I have a new apartment but the water pump is loud and annoying when it runs, looking to find out if its possible to put dampening material underneath it to help reduce the noise level

    any ideas?

    thks

A few feet of doubled-up, thick-pile Carpet works a treat.
You could also construct a box around it with MDF and line it with more carpet again.
    Leave ventilation holes though!

Most of the noise will probably be from vibrations so you do need to get something under neath it, rubber matting or carpet as 10-10-20 suggests. Make sure if there is any bolts holding the pump in place that you put insulation between the pump and the bolts or they'll just carry the vibrations through to the floor.

The box around it will also make a surprising difference as well, again insulate the inside to absorb the noise.
