In a huge downswing at the moment and it seems like people catch the nuts on me every hand. Help me out please.

    Hand 1
This guy was a bit of a fish. 35/14. The hand before this I raised AT and he called OOP. He check/called the flop (A high flop), and check/minraised the turn and I folded. Thats all I remember from him. Is the river call ok?

both are fine depending on reads, checking the turn on hand 1 is probably better (in isolation) though.

Sorry I didn't have full info in when you and HJ posted. Basically I wanted him to check/minraise again and I was gonna go broke.

    hand 1 is perfect

hand 2 i would fold,i don't think he just decided to overbet bluff this river on whim

hand 3 i probably just bet again,if he's taggish enough he's probably not check calling with a flush draw on the flop too often.sometimes i check behind to get value on the river, since the flush card might have killed my action, but i usually bet,it kind of depends on how many second barrels i've been firing lately,if its enough that he might c/r with a wide range,eg AQ with the As or something, then i definitely bet.

    hand 4 is disasterous.
first of all, your calling range in the sb should be very tight, its a horrible position to be in,and in today's squeeze happy games where every extra caller is more of an incentive for the big blind to rereaise,i hate calling here with such a marginal hand if i'm not closing the action.the only reason to occasionally call in the sb with something other than a pocket pair is balancing, and to be honest i don't bother with that much at all,i don't think its necessary to play a perfectly balanced game.

anyway,on this flop its a clear check fold,i'd probably call with A9 some of the time but thats the weakest hand i'd even think about c/calling with, you're out of position against four players with such a crap hand and very little chance of it improving.
as played its a fold on the river, but i really don't think you should have got there.i'm not saying that when i'm running over a table and we're deep i don't occasionally call with a dodgy hand like this in the sb,and even then i probably shouldn't,but when you're only one stack deep and running bad its an even worse call preflop.

    1) cool

    2) What if I tell you that his hand 1 river bet was for value?

    3) Yeah that was my thoughts too as I played it, I poted it cos I'm results orientated.

    4) lol, I'll run through my thoughts here. preflop I don't hate as much as you but yeah it's close I'll give you that. On the flop, once the pfr and the other guy check behind me I know they have nothing because they would want to be mad not to lead a set on this board. The last guy is IP and I figure he knows that the other 3 people in the hand have funk all so I think he bets lots of hands there air and draws etc. SOthats how I justified my call. Looking at it now by that logic raising would have been better maybe.

I bet the turn cos I didn't want to give him another free card since I has improved. Then on the river I didn't know wtf to do based on the range I had assigned him by way of his turn action.

i really think you're overthinking hand 4 hugely.

people check sets on boards like that all the time,or do other crazy stuff, very occassionally your hand is good on the flop, but in general in a four way raised pot you should pretty much always fold without a very strong hand,it doesn't matter that your pair might be good, its a middle pair and you're out of position, this is one of those situations where you may end up folding the best hand (not very often imo) but you don't mind that, its just much to awkward a spot to do anything else.

also if you are running bad you want to be avoiding these marginal spots even more than usual, this is very important.

as for hand 2,i still think its a fold here, the new information maybe makes it a little bit closer but not much i don't think
