Just downloaded too, can't go home early though :( The screenshot looks good. Anyone know a rough date for full release, can't see anything on that page?

Can someone post (or pm) a direct link and I'll host on unreal.ie. That page is getting hammered.

Edit: While I'll host all versions, I'm really looking for link to the linux version myself. :D

Edit: There is a well seeded torrent for the windows version on isohunt (the official website is down from what I can see).

Ok, I have the windows version mirrored (thanks deconstruct) :). PM for unreal.ie direct link (this will max out any irish connection). Do NOT share this link or I'll have to take it down. Thank you! Come again!

Wow, cool.. and my laptop might actually run this too.

Haven't heard of this game before.. I assume it's not just a fan production? Final version going to be retail, rather than free?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,485 ✭✭✭✭Khannie

In fact, it is a fan production. Looks excellent. Still trying to find a linux link. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

Kewl :D Gotta love those fans.

That forum page linked to at the top says the Linux and Mac versions aren't quite done yet.

(and cheers for the mirror :))

It looks fantastic. All the initial reports are good.

edit: feck it...the unreal.ie mirror is here. If it gets too hectic I'll take it down, but it should be ok with the volume of traffic on this board. :)

After an hour spent downloading and installing it I feel...

Desperately underwhelmed. Great voice acting, and its admirable what they did with an 8 year old engine but... it's just not that fun :( Pity

What is Freespace anyway - is it a combat sim or a strategy? Trying to decide whether or not to give this a go...

Freespace was/still is the best space combat game available. The sheer size of some of the the ships was amazing, and it had some of the most intense combat available. It was pretty much the last great space combat game as far as i know. Most after that were either like the X series, or more arcady ones like Freelancer.

And the mod looks great. I just hope they can get a decently made single player campaing going. Will download it later.

Give the Babylon5 based game 'I Found Her' a go, absolutely superb, really really REALLY hard, because you drift, if it takes you 10 seconds to reach a speed, it takes you 10 to slow down, and you have to turn long before you want to actually turn, because your forward momentum is always kept, but its so rewarding when you get good at it.

BTRL is fun enough, nothing really outstanding about it, but no real faults either, its just OK.

I always found Freespace depressing as my wingmen inevitably completed the mission while I flew around desperately trying not to get blown up.

Thank you Khannie for the mirror. Much faster than filefront!

FS2 it was the inverse, you had to basically nurse your wingmen.

I'm going to reserve my judgement for BtRL a bit I think. I should probably invest in a joystick and try and play it on a bigger monitor - certainly, I'm still eager to see the sheer scale of the capital ships when playing this... If it ever gets done it'll be immense

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 10,588 Mod ✭✭✭✭5uspect

30 seconds to go. I've a sidewinder forcefeed back joystick that I really want to use more. Hopefully this demo helps!

EDIT: I have to say this is quite cool. There's tons of controls to map and sort out but once you get that sorted its a good laugh.
A joystick would be a great benefit I'd say. I can't imagine playing this without one. Graphics wise these guys have done very well also.

It needs some good hectic online play tho...

Thanks for all the thanks. :) Glad to provide the mirror and glad you're all finding it so fast. Also (officially) mirroring the linux version. Have had 1084 downloads of it so far.

Oh yeah, I meant to post this when I saw it on Joystiq, heh.

I gave it a few mins try before I had to go somewhere, but I found the inverse mouse steering a bit awkward and couldn't find an option to change it (brief look), did I miss it?

Yeah, hate that inverted mouse. I think think was also a problem with the original Freespace 2; I never found a way to change it there either.

I think I saw something on that on the dev's forum...

LOL. Anti - Tellin' it how he sees it (TM).

I haven't actually given it much game time, because with the 2 month old baby game time is severely limited.

well considering how much fun I got outta freespace 1, this should be a riot. I wanna go play it again :)

    And sidewinder ftw!

Didn't work for me! Does it require freespace 2 to run?
