Going for your first MS Exam?

I had a few questions from other people off boards on how to go about doing your first MS exam. I have told them fairly much the same thing so I thought it might be handy to have here too!

You can book online through Thompson Prometric - http://www.prometric.com

Most exams cost about 140 to 170 euros a go.

Once you have scheduled your exam, you will recieve an email with all the details etc.

On the day of your exam, you will need 2 forms of ID and 1 of them has to be photo id. You cant bring a lot of stuff into the exam room. Basically nothing. No mobiles, pdas, laptops etc. You will have a countdown timer on the exam so you wont really need a watch either but some places will insist you take it off. Some places allow food/drink others dont, you might want to ask before hand.

Just relax do your exam, read the questions carefully and work through it. You will be able to review all your exam questions (tho be careful some are scenario based so you wont be able to review all the questions just the questions for that section)

You will get your final score at the end of the exam and hopefully it will be a passing grade.

And remember, if at first you don't succeed Microsoft are offering their Second Shot program so you can repeat your exam between now and June 30th 2008.

    Best of luck!!!

    Good pointer.

Another thing to note is depending on the exam center and exam it can sometimes take 3 or 4 weeks to sit the exam.

On average though its usually about a week.

Also dont freak out if the exam software freezes or crashes, it can usually be brought back. During a recent ITIL exam I had to constantly ALT TAB after every diagram to bring back the answer screen.

Thats a pretty good listing there, Ginger.

Of course there are other places that do Microsoft exams, who can be contacted by the details listed in the sticky above.

Aidan ... thats true alright, I have done all mine in house so far, very handy indeed to be able to walk downstairs sit the exam and then come straight back up. Takes a lot of the nerves out of it.

The two links above are just the normal testing partners for MS that are bookable online. I think we have all the bases covered tho :)

I don't think you can do the MS exams through Pearson VUE anymore.

Very true but that original post was written in April and for some reason I can edit it anymore! Oh well

I removed the reference to Person. Good catch Stephen.
