    Hey guys, i'm looking for a bit of advice here -

    I just sold my phone on ebay & the location of the sucessful bidder was listed as UK. This was fine as i specified a slightly higher postage rate for UK shipping.
    However after the bidding had ended i then when to send the winning bidder the invoice and it emergered that the winner bidders shipping address is in Nigeria...:confused:

    I specified that shipping was only to be to Ire or UK (i heard bad reports etc for Nigeria). I've checked postage on anpost.ie at it would be at least €30 depending on weight.

    Is this a scam - the fact that the bidder was initialy listed as UK address but now the shipping address is UK - what do ya think i should do? I recieved loads of the usual crap emails from china companies and people looking buy phones on behalf of others but none from my winner.

    Is it somebody in UK with a scammed credit card ro something....HELP!
    Maybe i should email winner + tell him of increase in postage rate?

    I would get on to ebay and let them know before proceeding. If he was listed in the UK and now turns out its actually Nigeria (not sure how that one works) then let them know and ask them for advice.. And as should be obvious.. ONLY accepr Paypal as then you can get your money back.

    Email him and tell him that you won't be shipping it to Nigeria as mentioned in your auction. Get onto eBay also.

    So what do i don now? This was my 1st time selling something on ebay. I was about to send invoice outlining increase in shipping cost but the email address is listed as _______@spambox.us.
    After googling spambox.us. its;

    With this service you can create a temporary e-mail address that will forward all incoming mail to your usual e-mail address.
    Simply enter your e-mail address and the life time of your spambox and we will generate you a temporary @spambox.us e-mail

    Can i now go back and offer the phone to the next highest bidder? Do i contact ebay to notify them of a potential scam?

    Edit -

    Not quite. If the Paypal payment was made with a stolen card it can be charged back. As it is the buyer can claim he didn't receive it etc etc and initiate a chargeback. Paypal is convenient (especially for cross-border) but the only one who _never_ loses is Paypal.
