Something like this would be a good place to start. It's good enough for a beginner and unless you plan on joining an orchestra it will do you for many years. It's got a 7C mouthpiece which is ideal for a beginner but if you like the high 'jazzy' notes the you may need something with a smaller cup. A 7C will take you to a G5 (and beyond) without having to burst a blood vessel.

I still use the Selmar I bought 25 years ago - I use the 7C mouthpiece and I also bought a 1.5C mouthpiece. TBH, I use the 7C more as I play the trumpet infrequently. I got stung by GAS in the keyboard world!

Be sure to get a B flat trumpet as most trumpet music is written in this key. If you do buy one then be sure to get a bottle of valve oil too.

I got this at Christmas. http://www.thomann.de/ie/thomann_cr400_kornett.htm It's basically the cheapest thing going, I only wanted to mess about with trumpet (It's not even a trumpet its a Cornet) to see what it's like and it's done me fine so far

Depending on how serious you are about this... I would tend to stick to the likes of a yamaha

    - great beginner instrument. Can't go wrong.
