    Another huge day.

I fear the worst though here, we had SA at 91-8 in a warm up match pre world cup, and forewarned is forearmed. Expect this to be a toughie

    Lets hope I'm wrong.

    Thoughts?

    Updates here tomorrow

Has to be a SA win. Sorry lads, but I'll support Ireland in every other game other than this one.

    C'mon Graeme and the boys!

We always know it was going to be a toughie.... this could be a hammering.

SA are chasing a semi-spot. They have to beat us. It might be clinical.

    Ireland by 9 wickets :D

:D If you're going to hype an Irish win by 9... why not make it 10?

Porterfield might be out cheaply! :(

With all joking aside... its more SA by 9...

Ireland preview on Sky right now

Definitely one where the heart says Ireland but the head says SA.

That being said, I think the odds just might be tempting enough to make me put a tenner where my heart is...

My head says SA, my heart says 'creditable performance by plucky part-timers'. My glass is half-empty, and there's a small crack at the botttom, and it's not really a glass, more of a plastic container, etc. etc.

Fingers crossed for Ireland but South Africa should win it easily. I would love it though if that lowlife Gibbs was bowled out for a duck:D

Geez... he's not THAT bad [gotta be seen to be sticking up for the boys].

Edit: You're right - he is a lowlife.

I really cant see an Ireland win in this one. I think it will be along the same lines as the English game in that Ireland will put in a another plucky performance and they wont be embarrassed but SA will be too strong.

If SA have to bat first though we always have a chance.

There's been an awful lot of hot-headedness on the Cricket forum in the last few weeks, for such a civilised game . :D
Going for the "creditable performance". Can't see it going any other way than to SA.

Yeah... what have you got against Graeme. I'll grant you Herschelle is a bit of a tw*t but Graeme isn't that bad ;)

South Africa have won the toss and have chosen to bowl.

    The start at 2:45pm.

    *****. SA to bowl. :(

Going to have a punt on ireland. If they win the toss they should put the SA into bat, a few early wickets and bob's your uncle.

I outlined why I don't like him here before.... maybe that's why I've always preferred Shaun Pollock.

I'm with you on that one. I also prefer Shaun as captain. I said as much to him when they were here to play Ireland at Clontarf CC a few years back.

They should never have stripped him of the captaincy.

Serious safety concerns here with so many people in the stadium...

a nervy start to the game from ireland

no need to do anything rash. Give themselves time to settle in and the ball to wear down.

That was the first Irish game I was at. 2004, iirc. And it was one of the last one day games in whites! Wonderful day in Castle Avenue.

Pollock was the fall guy for the D/L miscalculation against Sri Lanka in the 2003 WC. He did so well to galvanise the side after Cronje... it was all so wrong.

    Ireland 0/0 after 2

3 runs gained, 1 to Porterfield, 2 to Eoin Morgan

    Ireland 3/1 after 3.

    Spitting rain there...

Agreed. He was a hell of a captain and did an amazing job in transitioning the side away from Hansie's captaincy.

Mind you... I still think that Hansie was our best captain ever if you ignore the last dark days.

Really, conditions are not condusive for batting at the moment...
