Cycling with babies

    Hi,

I have a 10 month old boy and maybe when he's about 1, will it be ok to bring him out cycling in one of those child carriers that fit on the back of a bike? He's a big young lad and pretty sturdy so won't have any issues staying in it.

Also, can you get helmets for little heads? Checked in Halfords and they didn't have any small helmets.

    Thanks,

    Alan.

I'm planning on getting one of these:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/66505-Children-bike-trailer-for-1or2-kids-GS-approval_W0QQitemZ280099746962QQcategoryZ98932QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    but for my dog..

I've seen a guy running around town with one,and he has a son about 2 years old in it, who sleeps soundly all the way to wherever by the looks!

hhmm...yeah I'd rather not. I saw a local man last Summer who I've seen cycle around before and had obviously been to Halfords and came home with one of these trailors. It was the one and only time I saw him out with it.

So can helmets be got for kids? small kids?

Don't be so quick to knock trailers - I see a lot of people using them (admittedly, not living in Ireland at the moment). Check out Chariot for example for some well-designed, well-built products.

We used one ourselves for baby #1, Chariot's Sidecarrier which was/is great, and 2-month old #2 will be taking his first spin sometime in the next few months (once #1 graduates to a trail-behind)

I always recommend trailer over child seat.

    Expensive yes,

Advantages, less issues with centre of gravity.

My own of opinion that the child or children are more comfortable.

If you do have a topple by your self they are less likely to be affected as a fall with a bike.

Choice and risks are yours. But so is your child.
