    Hi everyone

Looking at Continental to fly Dublin > Las Vegas and they have a stop over in Newark on the way. The shortest connection is 1 hour 40 mins going over and 2 hours 12 minutes on the way back. Are these too short? What normally happens with these sort of flights, do you have to go through customs, pick up your bags and check in again? If so, the 1 hour 40 mins wouldn't be enough?

Would really appreciate some help as I haven't got a clue :)

    Thanks again.

You have to clear customs at the first point of entry to the US.

You will have to collect your bags, the airline may have a system to take them back at a designated point after clearance.

Immigration should be done in Dublin

Would imagine 1.40 on the way out too short.

However as in all these situations the best people to sort out all these issues is your carrier-Continental.

give them a ring ,they will be delighted to help...

Nope 1 hour 40 mins is grand. I've flown to Newark with Continental and had to get connecting flights, some were shorter than yours. The great thing is that you will check in for both flights when in Dublin.

All you have to do is collect your bag and pass it on to the ongoing flight check in, which they just take off you and your done. You then go through security again. All of this should take no more than 30-40 mins to do all that so you should around an hour to kill. If there is a delay in Dublin and you miss your ongoing flight, don't worry this is Continental's responsibility and they will put you on the next flight and anyway this is unlikely to happen.

The good thing is that all Continental flights that are inbound and outbound are in one termninal in Newark so there is no getting busses etc to other terminals unlike some airports (heathrow).

Did the exact same trip with Continental connecting in Newark a few months ago with a 2 hour connection. Truth be told, it was tight, but I still wouldn't recommend changing the reservation as Continental will just put you on the next flight it you miss it, and I seem to remember flights to Vegas being pretty frequent from Newark.

    Good luck!

Yup.. what I said, anything like headwinds,ETOPS problems, security procedures can impact on this and even 15 mins can put you in a no connection mode...

    However other people know better;)

anyone else find the baggage reclaim rediculously slow in newark? we've connected there for flights onward to orlando 3 times with an hour and a half stopover and always ended up running for our flight as we were waiting 30-40 mins for baggage to appear!

What kind of onboard facilities do Continental offer also? Do they have inflight entertainment, like tv screens at the back of the seats? We are flying Economy. I heard that Virgin do this but that involves going through London and would prefer going Dublin > US directly.

    Thanks again :D

It depends on the aircraft. If it's the 767, I believe they have some in seat screens. If it's the smaller 757, then I believe there is only overhead TV's

Yep Continental are only flying their 757s to Dub which means overhead TV's. Its not bad though.

Baggage is probably not "containerised" which might account for the baggage delays??
