just listening to a guy on atr ,thinks it astounding that they got 169 entries for the whole days racing today had to ballot out 75 horses and they still short 20 stables -let me direct this man to the entries for gowran park on tuesday in the opening maiden hurdle there are 159 entries for that race alone and the second has 119 entries -he would have a heart attack if he worked over here lol

tell me about it-look at the bumper in hexham the winner gets 1700 sterling -the bumper at limerick today pays 13000 sterling -plus on paper (well rpr ratings)theres is a better bumper -

so, if there are 159 entries for one race, I presume these horses are reasonably ready to run ...

what happens when they cannot get a run - is there a shortage of racing opportunities in Ireland?

well in the case of maidens -it was usually easier to win one from now till the first of may because u miss ur novice season once it goes may 2nd and all that is left open to u is handicaping the following season so no good or top class horses run in maidens in the month of april -but this year i think it extended to sept to have novice races during summer -plus trainers want to get a run into there horses b4 the ground goes hard -

yes there is a lack of opertunitys in ireland for horses out of the 159 entries only 20 will get a run the rest are balloted out in order -in the rules u can only be balloted out three times then u must get a run which can b a nitemare -u will start to see divided races very shortly to try ease the backlog at there first opertunity -plus if u finish in the first 5 places in ur race u are eligible to run the next twice or three times without being liable for ballot -gets confusing but every year they changing the format to try to make it better but there is just more and more horses -

shouldnt be advertising this but one way around this is to blanket enter ur horse ie enter it in numerous races the same week and u should get balloted out the first few to gaurantee urself a run in the race u want -what happens also is horses are entered in races which arnt ready to run yet in the hope that they get balloted so do this three times and then wait till ur horses is ready target a race and u then know u should defo get in -
can sometimes backfire especially if they divide

Seems crazy that you have to enter your horse in races that you do not want to run in to try and beat the system ... how much do these entries cost? - you are entering in at least 3 races to get into one - surely owners are being ripped off here ... must be a nice little earner for the Turf Club or whoever runs it ... 159 x ? ... when 130 of them have no chance of running!
    - Or do they get money back if balloted out?

money back if balloted but u must declare to run otherwise no ballot and no money back -horses will give u more headaches
