They have this beauty right now for €19.99 in Tesco.

Contains Taxi Driver, Mean Streets, Cape Fear, Casino and Sleepers.

A five-film box set of features starring Italian-American icon, Robert De Niro with all but one directed by his friend Martin Scorsese.

In 'Mean Streets' (1973) four Italian-Americans from New York's lower East Side hang around at a local bar. Charlie (Harvey Keitel), the most responsible of the group, tries to protect his girlfriend's cousin Johnny Boy (Robert De Niro) from the local debt collectors but his young charge seems determined to live fast and die young.

'Taxi Driver' (1976) is the Groundbreaking portrayal of urban alienation, also directed by Scorsese. Vietnam veteran cabbie Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) is consumed with disgust at the 'filth' which surrounds him. His explosive, psychotic loathing eventually drives him to make an attempt on the life of a politician, and when it fails he turns his attention to saving a prostitute (Jodie Foster) from the clutches of her pimp.

In 'Casino' (1995) Martin Scorsese once again casts Robert De Niro favourably as Sam 'Ace' Rothstein, the mob's frontman for a billion dollar Las Vegas casino. The story begins in 1973; Ace falls for hooker Ginger McKenna (Sharon Stone), while boyhood companion Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci) is appointed as his muscle at the club. Over the years jealousies surface, erupting, ultimately in the destruction of Rothstein's empire.

In 'Sleepers' (1996) we're taken to Sixties New York where four young boys, Lorenzo, Michael, John and Tommy, grow up in Hell's Kitchen, befriended by both the local priest and the gang boss. However, when a prank has near-fatal consequences the boys are sent to reform school, where they are sexually abused and beaten by a quartet of prison guards, an experience that marks the rest of their lives.

In 'Cape Fear' (1991) De Niro is absolutely convincing as tattooed psychopath Max Cady. He's spent his 14-year prison term in bitterness against attorney Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte). Now he's been released and is out to destroy the already troubled home life of Bowden and his family.
Fantastic boxset.. pretty much all killer, no filler (a very Scorsese orientated boxset i think you'll agree).

Picked up the last copy in the Sligo store today.. but probably still available around the country. And if not, it's still not bad for about €25 at Play.com
