    Hello all,

Well, I was playing some Supreme Commander when I paused the game to watch Premiership live. When I came back the screen was, well, corrupted is the best word I can use to describe it. I had white blocks all over the screen (in groups of 4).

The video card in question is an XFX 7900GT.One of these. Bought from the same place too.

My first thought was corrupted drivers so I resinstalled them. Still had the same effect on screen all the time (in windows as well as the game btw)

I have a M2N32-sli so I tried the VGA in both PCIe slots - same problem.
Tried monitor in both DVI slots - same problem.
Ive two 2007FPW so tried various combinations of monitor/DVI slot/PCIe slot and still same problem.
Finally, reinstalled windows - same problem.

So im leaning towards a hardware problem with the 7900GT.

Unfortunately, I dont have a spare PCIe VGA to check. My other PC has an AGP.

Ive never had a broken VGA before so basically what Im asking is has anyone else have a problem like this and does it sound like its a VGA problem?

Just want to know before I start an RMA process with DABS.
Might buy a cheap PCIe VGA to be sure.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

Is the cooler on the unit still working can you see the fan in action as if the cooler failed that may be the cause of the problem.

If not then it is unlikely to be a software issue and something has failed on the graphics card and you will need to RMA it.

You may off the off chance want to check the system RAM as well with Memtest+ just in case there is nothing wrong with the GPU though I do not know if you would be able to read the results on screen if the only GPU you have is the 7900GT.

Thanks for getting back to me 8T8.

Cant really see the fan working but I can feel the air blowing.
I didnt think of the memory. I'll try that.

Something I forgot to mention. The PC works after a fresh install of windows with the default video drivers (allbeit with the same corrupted output effect). However when I install the latest drivers the PC wont fully boot. It gets to the loading windows screen and then the monitor just goes into power saving mode. The only to way to get it working again is another fresh install of windows.

I think I'll go ahead with the RMA (hope DABS ara ok!). At least it's still under warrenty. Just wanted to check here first for a bit of advice. As I said never had a hardware related problem before.

    Thanks again.

Need to get a cheap VGA to tied me over for the next 4-6wks!
